Super User kickerfish1 Posted November 3, 2015 Super User Posted November 3, 2015 Looking into taking a trip to the SD area in the next year or two to visit family and get a day or 2 of fishing in. I will NOT be bringing the boat, nor any of my gear to fish with since I will be flying in there. For the folks that live there or have been there I would like some ideas on guide recommendations and fishing opportunities that exist there. At this point I am looking for ocean fishing opportunities but I am not opposed to freshwater ones as well. I have never spent any time ocean fishing so it will be a bucket list thing. Thanks for any replies/advice! Quote
So. Cal. Lunker Hunter Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Hi I have fished the San Diego area for 20+ years. Trust me don't wast your time ocean fishing. Diego offers some of the best large mouth fishing anywhere. Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted November 3, 2015 Super User Posted November 3, 2015 Saltwater fishing, I'd look into Seaforth Sportfishing. One of the best landings in S. Cal. Used to run charter boats out of there and their 3/4 day boat, The San Diego has one of the best young captains running it. Talk to Mark in the tackle office and he will set you up with the tackle needed as they do rent out equipment. Quote
Slade House Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 dont waste your time ocean fishing? with el nino people have been catching Marlin (big ones ) less than a mile offshore. Go up to Dana Point harbor and go north for some marlin or tuna Quote
Slade House Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 or i would go with http://richtauberfishing.com/ rich tauber to Casitas , he is a former angler of the year, ESPN bassmaster university instructor , US Open champion, fished the Bassmaster classic a few times. He will get you on a few 6 or 7 pounders guranteed Quote
