TxHawgs Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 I'm about to buy a whole new arsenal, most rods being Loomis NRX and GLX. But not needing a super sensitive rod for frog fishin and just wanting to try a cpl other brands I was thinking about tryin the new Zillion frog rod. Off my head I think it's 7'4" HF anyone have it? If so likes dislikes? Also first frog rod will 7'4" hit the water from a boat, I'm 6'. Think I read somewhere that the Zillion rods are tip heavy? I know there sexy as hell and if it fishes like it looks I might pu one of the CB rods also, thanks guys. Quote

I finally landed the right rod and eliminated the need for a custom. Take a look at the Abu Garcia 74-6 IKE Frog n Toad rod. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted November 4, 2015 Super User Posted November 4, 2015 7'4" should work for a frog rod, although you might have to adjust the angle of the rod to make sure it doesn't hit the boat or the water. Personally I prefer a little shorter one, right around the 7' mark, but then again I'm not a huge fan of longer rods in general. Quote
jtesch Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 save yourself a couple bucks and get the Tatula frog rod, same action, same styling. as a dedicated Daiwa guy and someone who loves to spend money i'll tell you this rod is a friggin steal for the money. The rod has a ton of backbone but still casts well and is very versatile. I use it for a heavy jig rod and throwing swimbaits up to 2oz's. I took down a 5-3/4 out of real heavy cover 3 weeks ago and it took a total of about 10 seconds. put a reel with a lot of drag and 80 pound braid and your all set. I'm 6'1" and have no prob pitching with it but it's all in your style. After I bought this rod I liked it so much I grabbed 5 more Tatulas, some are average but a couple of others are great also, read the Tackle Tour review, they basically say the Tatula is an equal to the Zillion. Have to admit, I still want a Zillion or two in the arsenal. 1 Quote
21farms Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 anyone have it? yup, i have one. unfortunately, i can't tell you much about it...i bought it last year but it's still sitting in my rod rack in my man cave with the wrapper still on it gathering dust. i did weigh it though and it comes in at 4.4 ounces. another rod that is highly recommended for frogs is the megabass orochi XX perfect pitch (which i also have) and that one is a full 2 ounces heavier. regardless, i don't find it tip heavy feeling with a reel mounted on it...then again, frogging is a tip-down technique so i wouldn't mind too much even if it were. anyway, i like what jtesch said...i've had 4 tatulas and 3 of the new zilions (still have two). the tats are great-feeling rods. the reason i "upgraded" from the tatulas to the zillions was for the cosmetics if you're looking to expand your rod brands, you should also consider the brand new dobyns DX 746C HP Quote
UKCATSBASSER Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 I'll second the tatula frog Rod. Was throwing football jigs on it the other day. probably throw an A rig on Kt next. Then when summer rolls around I'll throw frogs and big topwaters on it. Quote
