Posting for a buddy...

He was looking at grabbing some new reels baitcaster and spinning and he has some older Fuegos. He said the new ones are half the price of what he paid for the older ones awhile back.

So he's asking:

Are they as good or better with the newer technology than their previous versions?

I don't know anything about these so I was of no help. Any feedback I could relay would be great.

The general consensus Ive picked up on is that while people havent used them, they are disappointed in the product daiwa put out.

Just tell him to order the JDM Alphas SV from any of the online sites. They're right at $200 and probably they best bargain out right now.

better than the tats? He actually had one tat type r and had the grooving issue so he's turned off on them

Daiwa fixed the grooving issue I believe, but yes like he said, get the Alphas SV. Does he have a price range?

My understanding is that the Fuego is a Tat without the TWS system.  If he liked the tat, other than the grooving, he would probably like the Fuego.  I agree that the Alphas SV is the best thing Daiwa has going right now, or at least in the sub $200 price range.  It's a much smaller reel that is geared more toward finesse fishing but is capable of non finesse techniques.

Yeah by a long shot. The Tatula is a fine reel for $100, but the Alphas SV is a whole different reel. It's smaller, lighter, and has the SV spool. It can handle finesse type baits or anything else you want to throw. It does not have that darned gimmicky Tws to deal with either. It outshines the Tatula in every way possible.

He said he read something about the zillions using a new t wing that has a coating on it...? News to me lol steered him to Japan lure shop and gave the recommendation for the Alphas. Is the AV spool the same free floating spool in the zillions? He said for workhorses the new Fuegos are priced right for him to buy multiples.... Idk what his budget is he's all over the place I guess he's getting a gameplan together for Black Friday... Lol

The TWS Zillion has a thinner t wing. It's what Daiwa has been using to replace grooved t wings from the Tatulas. The TWS Zillion is a glorified Tatula. It's built on the same frame and has like 2 small differences from a Tatula. The sideplates interchange confirming it's the same frame. It's overpriced also. Yes, the Alphas SV uses a free floating spool. The new Fuego and Alphas SV are priced about the same. So he should just buy multiples of it instead. Except he's not gonna get a Black Friday deal from an overseas website. Maybe he should hold off for the new Zillions that'll have the SV spool if he's wanting a workhorse. Cause we all know the OG Zillion is one heck of a workhorse reel.

I can't comment in regards to the new Fuego baitcasters, but I just got the new Fuego spinning reel and I really like it.

I bought the 2000 size, and have 15# braid on it.  It is a very good caster, and very smooth.  The drag performs well, and had no difficulty bringing up 3 and 4 pound Lake Erie smallmouth from 20'+ of water.  I have primarily used Pfleuger Presidents in the past, and am very satisfied with my purchase.

I have my sights set on another one for a shakey head setup I am looking to put together by the springtime.

Well, I would say that the only way he gonna get the same quality of them old Fuegos is him getting a Zillion.

He ordered 2 zillions ended up getting them from Japan Lure Shop thanks to us lol they're the only ones with it in 5:1. Daiwa doesn't offer 5:1 in the states in the zillion or the Tat. This 9:1 Zillion is sexy as hell. Now that I know they're comfortable on the *** 2.0 reel seat I'm tempted at keeping my Tats and getting that 9:1 ;) thanks guys.

Whats he gonna do with the old Fuego's.  They are my favorite.  Building a couple Fuego-Z's right now. :)

Heck yeah it is!  After owning many reels from many different companies over the years, I only fish Daiwa and Shimano now.  I've sold off or retired everything else.  I have roughly an equal number of each, best of both worlds.   :eyebrows:

Exactly. Why limit oneself, both company's make excellent reels..

My only dealings with Shimano was only a Curado and Chronarch 51e. I'd love to try one of their higher level reels but after being let down twice I'm a bit scared now.

I have never owned a Calcutta, nor any DC Shimano reel, I own Chronarchs and once owned a Calais 100A, I still have the Chronarchs but the Calais ......... I changed it for a TDZ ! Actually I own 4, man the Calais may have been a Rolls Royce but the TDZ is like a Ferrari.

I have had a new Fuego baitcaster for just under a month. Solid reel for the price, actually has a lot less issues than my Citica I has. I'd recommend it so far.
