OK, so I "Need" another rod. It will be used primarily for drop shotting, but its secondary use will be for jerkbaits.

Here's what it's going to be used for:

50 % of time - Drop shots from about 1/8 - 3/8 oz.

35% of time- jerkbaits most HJ 06 and HJ 08's but would be great to work HJ 10's too

15% light texas rids 1/8 oz and shakey heads.

Here are a selection of rods, please rate them based on how well they would perform their primary andsecondary uses. I was originally thinking a ML, Fast action, 6'10ish with 8-10 lb flouro, but I threw some MF's in just in case----

Fenwick HMG 7' MLF fast

G Loomis drop shot E6x 6'10 Mag Lite XF

G. Loomis E6X Spinning Rod 6'6" Medium 782S SJR

G. Loomis E6X Spinning Rod 6'8" Medium 802S JWR

St. Croix Mojo Bass Spinning Rod 6'10" Med Lt

Avid around 7ish feet in either XF or Fast action

I know some of these rods are on different playing fields but there are different things I like about each of them.

Thanks in advance,

Steve

By no means do I want anyone to rate every single rod, I just need a point in the right direction. As I've said in the past , I don't have the luxury of trying out every single rod, so I need to start narrowing it down.

You listed a lot of rods, I wish I could get my hands on all those. I think you are on the right track. I am sure anyone would do some of those techniques very well and the others ok. Unless you want 100 rods on deck; you have to compromise.

The loomis rods are spin jig taper which is probably not going to be different from "bass" rods but the diameter of the blank will be smaller.

Xf st croix blanks have a kind of hinged action they have a limber tip that transitions to backbone very quick in the blank (think top 15%) of the rod flexes.

Fast spinning rod blanks (non spin jig) depending on power and length can flex throught the blank.

I think that's 2 different rods. For a drop shot I would lean toward a ml spinning rod with 6lb. line. For stickbaits, a M or MH casting rod with 10 or 12 lb. line.

In a pinch a M power spinning rod would work for both ,but I don't think it's ideal for either.

HJ06 and HJ08's weigh 1/8 and 1/4 oz respectively. You think that should be done on a casting outfit?

I'm curious why you haven't considered the Dobyns Savy in that lineup? The 692 Savy is my go to drop shot rod. The 693 would probably work for both drop shot and small jerkbaits like the husky jerk.

Honestly I didn't consider it because I already have too many split grip rod offerings. If it came down to two rods , I would probably pick the full cork grip because I own very few and wanted to mix it up. I figured for drop shot and jerking, i would want full cork.

.... And as I look at the savy, it looks like a pretty sweet rod. I'll add it to my list

if I was you I would check out the new phenix k2 ml its basically one of the best rods you can buy and I have personally used one... (but I cant afford one my self)   :cry3:  :cry3:  :cry3: :(

That is definitely more than I'm looking to pay. I've never even heard of Phenix rods. They look awesome, I'm sure they are great rods. Where do you even try something like that out At?

I actually have a buddy who is a rep and he's got all kinds of there rods I own m1s composite crank bait and maxim rods there all solid quality rods. Mabey a maxim or m1 rod is more in your price range?

What could you tell me about the maxim? I would go with the ML offering. Looks like a pretty cool rod. How would that compare to something like a dobyns savy, g loomis dropshot or the mojo bass ML?
