Super User Senko lover Posted November 3, 2015 Super User Posted November 3, 2015 Hybrid? Did it have a rough patch on it's "tongue?" Quote
Super User bowhunter63 Posted November 3, 2015 Super User Posted November 3, 2015 Maybe a spot Smallie cross ? Quote
Molay1292 Posted November 3, 2015 Author Posted November 3, 2015 Hybrid? Did it have a rough patch on it's "tongue?" Not a Hybrid if you mean a Wiper type Hybrid, they are very different than this, they also have two tooth patches on their tongues. Quote
Molay1292 Posted November 3, 2015 Author Posted November 3, 2015 Maybe a spot Smallie cross ? Maybe, that would make it a mean mouth if I am not mistaken. Quote
lo n slo Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Did your fish have a patch on it's tongue? Quote
Molay1292 Posted November 3, 2015 Author Posted November 3, 2015 Did your fish have a patch on it's tongue? Did not check, we typically only check to distinguish the difference between a white bass and a wiper. White bass have 1 tooth patch, Wiper have 2. Quote
Molay1292 Posted November 3, 2015 Author Posted November 3, 2015 Spots have a patch too Was not aware of that, wish I would have checked now. Quote
lo n slo Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 That thing sure has a tiny looking mouth. It could be some other kind of bass. I'd be willing to bet somebody on here will know what kind. Quote
Molay1292 Posted November 3, 2015 Author Posted November 3, 2015 That thing sure has a tiny looking mouth. It could be some other kind of bass. I'd be willing to bet somebody on here will know what kind. Had a very small mouth, don't know that I have ever seen one like it. Quote
Super User Scott F Posted November 3, 2015 Super User Posted November 3, 2015 NOT a smallmouth. Spotted bass probably 4 Quote
Super User Montanaro Posted November 3, 2015 Super User Posted November 3, 2015 Spot Broken up line and jaw does not extend past eyeball. Not even close to a smallmouth. Look up a meanmouth if you wanna see a coolfish 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted November 3, 2015 Super User Posted November 3, 2015 Where was this bass caught? Not a good photo to identify the species, it's doesn't any visual Smallmouth coloration, no bars. This bass has a dark patch (spot) at the end of the dark lateral line that is a spotted bass identifier, can't see if the dorsal fin is connected or where the jaw ends relative to the center of the eye. It could be a Shoal bass or Red eye bass, depending the location where the bass was caught. Teeth on the tongue is a Spotted bass characteristic, not a Smallmouth. Tom Quote
