UKCATSBASSER Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 I have a split grip st Croix premier 6'6" M action. Not fond of the split grip on that short of rod. Was going to get a full grip version of the same Rod. Worth it to move to an avid? I like how the premier M is rated up to 3/4 ounce to handle the bigger walk the dog type baits. Quote
illinifan4152 Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 I picked up an 6'8 MXF avid X this year and it is amazing, I have had great success fishing jerkbait in it this fall, highly reccommended to step up to the avid line. Quote
Jolly Green Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 The Avid X line are all split grips; the regular Avid line is full cork. I think it's worth stepping up, and if you can wait a few weeks for holiday sales so much the better. Gander Mountain has had a good deal on St. Croix's the past two years. Quote
zell_pop1 Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 I thought St. Croix no longer had the upgrade program where you send them a premier and get an avid while paying the difference. Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted November 3, 2015 Super User Posted November 3, 2015 The 68mxf is a fantastic topwater/jerbait rod. If you go avid, i would go that route. Quote
dam0007 Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Dobyns champion 685cb +1 One hell of a Rod. Used mine 2 years now for jerkbaits and poppers. Moderate taper definitely helps keep the fish pinned on the trebles. Quote
