I see a lot of reference to these rods Are you guys primarily talking about the "shock" rod, or the IM6 or both.

The Shock gets mentioned the most.  I couldn't get past the yellow.   (On older models.  No idea color of new.)  The original is a nice rod....especially at its price.  I always specify which rod I am talking about.  Although I use braid on a few rods, I prefer mono/co-polymer so the original would be my first choice of the 2 even if I liked yellow on a rod.  Why are you asking?  Need a rod to throw in the trunk?

I still have some of the old lighting rods from the late 80s early 90s. To me they are made better, and theyve hauled in alot of fish. Not one ever failed me. The new ones have a cork forgrip, that will break apart in no time. New and improved isnt always better :)

Pretty much hit the nail on the head. I have been fishing with a friend in his bass boat, and between a sometimes rough ride across the lake, and some carelessness in the boat, I don't want to take the chance of getting an $800.00+ rig damaged, or flung in the lake. I picked up a couple of the IM6 rods, put on a couple of BPS Pro Qualifiers that I already had. So basically I was just wondering which version of this rod was best. A little late to be asking for sure.

Gander mountain has rods on sale for $50 half off. I am sure they are better then the berkleys. Shimano convergnce are not bad rods and Eagle GT rods. They are all similarly priced.

My original Lightning is the IM6.  In which case I personally feel you made the right choice.  Going to have a faster action.  Mine is pretty sensitive for its price.  Much better than the first quality rod I bought...an Airrus Ultra XL MH which cost several times the Lightning.

My first good rod was a Lightning ( original IM6 and back in those days they were´t exactly "affordable" ), my second good rod was .... yup, you guessed right, a Lightning, my third good rod was, well, how come it was another Lightning ? I still have them around, now they are not my primary weapon of choice but they still can get the job done, btw, my first 10+ lber was caught .... with a Lightning Rod !

The Shock's, for the money, are hard to beat. I have moved into the custom rod world, but I keep the Shock's for backup, and pond hopping duty.

Thank you Raul. I appreciate your input. Another "solid" recommendation. I believe this will be a good rod to fish with,

but if something happens to it, at least I won't puke.

I really appreciate everyone's response. You certainly don't leave a guy just hangin' out, waiting for an

answer.

Me too! Used these rods a bunch when I lived in central Florida & caught Buku largemouth to 9 lb.

In those days, rod selection was much simpler. There was a Ranger dealer in Orange Park, Fl. where I would visit & chat ( & drool over the 363 V) as well as check out custom rod builds. Those rods were super nice & very, very expensive. Eventually, I settled on Quantum Boron & Fenwick Boron rods. Lightning really strikes these rods you know, lol. ..Hey Hootie!

He's doing well, and actually...IMHO....tries to do too much at times. I haven't had to pick him up off the floor, or carry him around....But once he was getting a little stupid with us (pain meds. doing his talking) so I wheeled him out of the shop in his wheel chair, and locked him out so we could get back to what we were doing. Hilarity ensued....and he got the point....which was next time your all hopped up on the pain pills, maybe stay home and let it wear off before you come to the shop and start talking gibberish and causing mass confusion.

I bought a shock rod because I like the moderate action and was
rated 1/4 to 1 1/4oz.
It's has been a good little 6' split grip. I've used it primarily for
Spinnerbaits but it's also a good rod for skipping baits and does a great job with
lipless cranks. I caught a 5 with it in some medium light junk using a 3/8 oz
terminator. The fish burrowed himself in the stuff. I kept him held,
when he moved I pulled up on him and cranked him in.
The Shock rod did great. I use 40 power Pro with a CX leader.
The guides aren't the best but they've done quite well even after being stepped on a few times. No scars.

I wrapped the grip and butt with splicing tape for comfort
and balance. It's a good beater.
