bass raider Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Hey guys I'm wanting to get a new rod and thought about trying somthing different. I compared my irod gen2 and my Powell endurance and sadly I can't tell a difference in the sensitivity between the two. So I'm looking at getting a rod with sensitivity a step up from what I got. Willing to spend up to $250 on it. Some of the rods I've been looking at have been kistler klx, cashion, hammer, alx, or trying an irod air. I really like my irods so I'm not against getting another one. Anyone have experience with any of the rods I listed and can you compare it to an endurance, irod or duckett? Should I just stick with a big name like dobyns or st.croix? My main concern is sensitivity and balance. Thanks. Quote
poisonokie Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Major Craft ms-x. I don't think there's a better alternative in terms of sensitivity or balance, especially at that price point. Quote

Some of which will be based on a good amount of experience and others that are on very limited experience. You have people who buy 1 rod out of a series from X company 3 months ago and it then becomes unbeatable for price, sensitivity, and balance compared to other rods available. When that person has only ever used rods from a couple other companies. The endurance was/is still is my favorite rod series that I've owned in the price point. You could buy them all day for $150 brand new. It was sensitive and the balance is almost impossible to beat. One thing to remember though is sensitivity is subjective to some people. I know people who can't tell the difference from a $75 rod to a $350 rod. Balance is also subjective. Some people prefer rods to balance at different spots. From your list I've owned a Cashion. It was about the same as the endurance for sensitivity. The rod was lighter overall. Balance was good. The klx has nothing but positives from anything I've seen. I've owned other kistler rods and they were nice. I have some Dobyns rods also. Nothing negative about them except price. I'd never buy one at full retail. Balance could be better for some models. The $250 budget will give you so many options. Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted October 30, 2015 Super User Posted October 30, 2015 From ones you mentioned, the only two that stuck out are Cashion and ALX. I wouldn't fish a Cashion if you gave it to me. Fit and finish is the worst I've ever seen on a production produced rod. I never handled a built ALX, but I have played around with their blanks at the 2013 ICRBE. They felt light and crisp. I wouldn't be afraid to try them. Quote
Rusty Shackleford Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 I have three ALX rods, between two spinning models, the diplomat and maestro. I really like them both. I'm wanting to try a casting rod or two Quote
shaggydog Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Yeah, the *** is pretty sweet. the 7'3" rods have a longer handle and I can "cradle it the best" but I have longer arms so thats why I like it. The 6'10' *** is my favorite rod all around. Something about it, I dont know, but I'm always fishing it. The reel seat can become uncomfortable though and I dont notice it when you just grab it but after fishing it a while it becomes uncomfortable for me. St. Croix Avid is awesome and I can fish that rod all day long. The legend elite is one of the best rods around, skip the legend tournament bass. If I was in the market for another rod it would be the discontinued model of the legend elite on discount. Quote

The Tatulas literally hurt my hands with the reel seat the shimanos not at all. Don't fish any other brand reels so I can't say. Quote
