Blue Marsh Lake Was Good To Me Today.

After work I went to the lake. For once every decision I made was great. Lures were bluegill squarebill that I painted and a brown flipping jig. Was just paralleling the bank with the squarebill with a stop and go retrieve, casting to visible cover. Pitching the jig to visible cover. Caught 3 fatties around 3 lbs with squarebill 2 got off and caught 1 biggin about 3 1/2 lbs with the jig. Up a creek arm some what steep banks. The lake was down about 4 foot. Made it easier to walk the bank. Don't know what else to say except I had a great time.

Do you fish the marsh often? I have a tournament there early in the spring and no nothing about the place other than the reviews say its horrible to fish. Any insight?

People say it's a barren wasteland. It's not a bad place to fish. It's just tough. Put the time in. just got to find the fish...Easier said then done. Find one find more in the same spot. Just a theory but I believe that these fish follow bait they don't stick around too long. I noticed when I was walking the bank I was spooking bluegills and that's where the bass were. Lots of stumps and downed trees where I was fishing too.

That's about right, it's been my experience that when the weather is fair, like spring, you'll find more people bathing in the lake than you'll find bass.

Here's another, probly around 20 inches and 5 lbs on a flipping jig. And this bass has those black spots on its tail. Fought so hard.

So in relation to the dam, where were you? I went there over the summer and couldn't find a good spot to set-up at.

Summer might be different... I was up a creek arm off the 183 bridge walking the bank. Coming from reading it's the first little bridge you cross.

 I started fishing Blue Marsh in the 80's before they decided to lower the water levels every fall. It was tough to fish then. I've heard of tourneys where only a few fish were turned in. I remember there were places where bait would congregate during spring but you had to hunt for them. To me that lake was always a nightmare for bass fishing.

I live 7 miles from Blue Marsh. First year I caught nothing then I started really studying different fishing techniques. Now in a 3 hr period I usually catch 3-5 fish. You need to spend time there to figure them out then you will start catching. Senkos, texas rigged worms, spinner baits, crankbaits all work. You will also catch catfish on crankbaits there.....I have a few spots where I can always count on a fish....

Went fishing there once.  Was one time too many.  At least in the area I fished.  It was in the northern part if I remember correctly.  Water had been drawn down.  Only holes I saw were where a bridge had been removed.  Shallow otherwise...1-3 feet.  Water was clear with a mud bottom visible.  Not one green plant to be seen.  About the ugliest place I've ever seen to fish.  I've heard there are some nice fish there, but tough fishing.  Also further south than where I was at.  No visible life ....plant, minnow or anything else where I went that day.  Zilch.  Well lots of ugly mud.
