Jaw1 Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 Has anyone had problems with Z man plastics melting in the package? I've had plenty of issues with Z man plastics not playing nice with other baits but this is a first for me. They are trd baits I planned to try Ned rigging with. I got a pack out that I bought about a month ago that were stored in my shop in the original package unopened to show a friend. They are melted to each other, pretty much useless. What do you guys think happened? Never have liked this type plastic but decided to give it another shot. My mistake. Quote
Super User MIbassyaker Posted October 28, 2015 Super User Posted October 28, 2015 I have had Zman plastics stick to each other a little bit, to the point that they have to be pulled apart carefully....but not melt. Too much heat? Quote
Jaw1 Posted October 28, 2015 Author Posted October 28, 2015 Not a heat problem it's not that hot in my shop Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted October 28, 2015 Global Moderator Posted October 28, 2015 Are they melted or stuck together? I've had some get misshaped so I let them sit out of the pack for a day or two and they went back to normal. I keep mine in the boat through the summer in triple digit weather and have never had a pack melt, and I have several dozen packs of Zman baits in my boat and a bunch more hanging in the garage, no issues. 1 Quote
S. Sass Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 I've only had a issue when leaving a zman bait in with other baits. I have a bad habit of just tossing baits I pull off in one compartment of a Plano box. I'm kind a in a hurry wanting to swap to something else so I don't bother putting every one back exactly in its pack till later when I get back from fishing. They will deform melt turn to slime etc etc if you leave them mixed. Quote
Jaw1 Posted October 28, 2015 Author Posted October 28, 2015 Yeah I've experienced the mess that occurs when they are mixed with other brands. Learned that lesson years ago but they melted/ deformed in their original pack with no other bait present. Maybe a bad pack. I do not like elazetech(spelling) plastic not matter the manufacturer and had gotten rid of all that I had until I decided to try this technique. Should of learned my lesson Quote
Tim Kelly Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 I've had zinkers stick together if the pack's been left out in the sun on the boat deck before. They go a little sticky and adhere to each other, but can be pulled apart and still fish fine. I just make a point of leaving them out of the direct sun now. 1 Quote
Lendiesel22 Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 I had a hula stick deform and stick to my work bench. Have not had a single problem prior to that. I just follow the basic rules with elaztech. No direct sun, no sustained high temps, no mixing with regular baits. Hula stick on a 1/10th head caught me a bunch this year. Quote
Jaw1 Posted October 28, 2015 Author Posted October 28, 2015 To much hassle to go through just to use their product, but I understand different strokes for different folks. I have a few packs of their craws and whatever their small swimming fluke type bait are. When they are gone I think I'm done Quote

I got really excited about their Finesse Shadz product a couple years back because they stayed on the hook way better than any other drop shot bait. Bought like 4 packs and not even a month later they were all misshaped, stuck together, deformed. But not melted because they were still in their original package. I have very little confidence in Z shaped drop shot worms. Z-Man needs to use clamshell packaging. Quote
Tim Kelly Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 It's just like switching from mono to braid or any other alteration in the way you've previously operated. You just have to learn the little wrinkles that you need to change to adapt. Hardly impossible to keep them out of the sun and away from other plastics. They have properties that are worthwhile in some situations. Don't understand the attitude of throwing the whole deal out rather than adapting slightly to suit a new material. Quote
Jaw1 Posted October 29, 2015 Author Posted October 29, 2015 It's not a new material for me actually. I've tried it in the past and just thought it would be worth another shot. I don't have a problem with keeping them away from the sun or other plastics as they never left my shop. I guess my mentality is why would I want to spend my time babysitting any soft plastic. Just not worth it to me. I understand some people like them but I guess I'm just not interested in messing with a non user friendly product. For the record I don't like the sk version either. But if it's your thing go for it. Just surprised about the latest package I bought and was wondering if it was the norm Quote
