Got My Px L Out Last Weekend For The First Time.

Bought it when TW closed them out last winter.  Still was more than I'd ever spent on a reel.  Figured why not try a finesse reel instead of trying to turn other reels into light lure reels.  So far I've only tossed a 1/8 oz. Strike King spinnerbait on it.  I know it weighs more than 1/8 oz., but should be less than the 3/16 oz. Shad Raps I've thrown on other outfits.  Set the drag.  Set the spool tension.  Cast.  Overrun.  Forgot to set the brake. 

 

All was well after putting some brakes on.  No more overruns.  Was able to back off a little on the spool tension and lower the brakes a bit without causing an overrun.  I think this reel is going to let me cast with fewer brakes on then any of my other magnetic brake only reels.  Pleased with it so far.  Was getting pretty good casting distance even in the wind.  Stopped Friday after work to make a few casts.  Planned on tying on a 1/8 oz. crankbait, but changed my mind with all the leaves currently on the water....especially near the bank.  Don't know if I will get to try 1/8 oz. this year.

 

What I did decide was I personally don't think of a rod capable of handling that light a lure as a bass rod.  Use to fish ultralights and 4# mono a lot so I know it will handle any 10# bass swimming....as long as it is in open water.  When I got back into fishing, I went to baitcast reels and rods with more backbone.  Gotten use to fishing them.

Not sure of total weight but I throw trick worms with a 1/16oz tungsten weight and a 2/0 offset worm hook with mine. The one time I will suggest upgrading spool bearings is with a finesse reel. It will aid in spool startup with light baits.

My PX-R can be finicky on the cast, it definitely requires more attention on the cast than any other reel I own due to that spool being so darn fast. A super fun reel to use. Love mine.

When I had mine this spring I threw 4" cut tail senkos weightless on a 2/0 on 15lb braid no issues

Hoping the SV105 coming Monday will be able to do the same

You'll be just fine with the SV, it's very difficult to mess up a cast with that spool.

Maye mine is over-greased as it doesn't seem finicky at all so far.  I know what you mean about fast spools.  My 3rd or 4th reel was a used Alphas ito 103ai.  Was great with 3/8 oz. lures.  1/4 oz. not so good....for me.  Course I had zero experience with light lures at that time.

Something I will have to consider after using for awhile.  I'm not the world's greatest caster.  Worry that new bearings might be too fast for me on a reel like this.  I will say that other Diawa reels I have had tuned and upgraded (or bought already tuned and upgraded) allow me to cast with fewer brakes tuned on than factory stock.  TD-Z 105H, Fuego, Sol, T3 1016, Tatula Type R, Alphas Type F.

I use mine a lot for Zoom finesse worms with 1/16 tungsten weight, and have also been throwing the Jackall Flick Shake in 4.8" with the 1/16th oz flick shake hooks.  I have mine on a St. Croix M/XF rod using 30# Maxima braid.  It is a great combo to hold all day long.  Very light and comfortable.
