Super User S Hovanec Posted October 24, 2015 Super User Posted October 24, 2015 Hmmm. Wonder what could be in that box in my trunk? It may or may not be one of these!!! 4 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Sweet. Upgrade or addition? Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted October 24, 2015 Author Super User Posted October 24, 2015 Addition. Plan on turning stabilized wood and acryllic reel seat inserts. I've done wood ones on the wood lathe, but the metal lathe can knock them out in no time flat! Like 2 minutes instead of 15-20!! Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Do you use a lot of those or do you want to sell them? Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted October 24, 2015 Author Super User Posted October 24, 2015 Do you use a lot of those or do you want to sell them? I plan on starting to sell them. Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted October 26, 2015 Super User Posted October 26, 2015 Couldn't resist any longer, could you? LOL A small metal lathe is on my list. Now there will be more questions from me, that you can answer. Let me know when you get tired of all my questions. 1 Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted October 26, 2015 Author Super User Posted October 26, 2015 Couldn't resist any longer, could you? LOL Nope. Especially since Grizzly is closing down their PA operation. Made a trip there on Saturday. Everything was 20% off. They had a 13x40 in the scratch and dent section marked down from $4300 to $1500. I was $1100 and a truck and trailer short or it would have been mine! Lol Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted October 26, 2015 Super User Posted October 26, 2015 Sweet! I'm gonna end up with one sometime in the near future. 1 Quote
WPCfishing Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Congrats... You must really love what your doing. Quote
Rick Howard Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Pretty sweet! I did not know grizzly was closing down the PA showroom. That stinks. Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted October 26, 2015 Author Super User Posted October 26, 2015 Pretty sweet! I did not know grizzly was closing down the PA showroom. That stinks. The 31st is their last day. Get out there and see what they have. The showroom is sparse, but they have lots in the warehouse. Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted October 26, 2015 Author Super User Posted October 26, 2015 This is the one that could have been..... 1 Quote
basscatcher8 Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Can't wait to see what ya start turning out. Quote
Rick Howard Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 I could use a new lathe but since I recently bought a boat... then trolling motor.... and a a half dozen rods and reels.... I am willing to bet Mrs. H will not go along with the idea. 1 Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted October 26, 2015 Author Super User Posted October 26, 2015 Can't wait to see what ya start turning out. It won't be much different than what I already do, it will just make some functions easier. Turning wood reel seat inserts will go from 15-20 minutes down to 2 minutes or so. 1 Quote

He's gonna call me back tomorrow. Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Scott, with all these toys, you'll be unstoppable! You'll be turning out complete rods in like 40 minutes. Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted October 27, 2015 Author Super User Posted October 27, 2015 You'll be turning out complete rods in like 40 minutes. I don't know about that! It takes me that long to get the guides aligned sometimes. You'd swear Ray Charles wraps some of my rods!! 4 Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted October 27, 2015 Author Super User Posted October 27, 2015 I wasn't gonna open it til I had a bench to set it on. Well, you see how long that lasted! I just moved the powerwrapper off of my wrapping bench and threw it up there.....for now. Got the packing grease cleaned off and just finished the break-in procedure. Now I need to acquire some cutting tools and give it a real spin! 2 Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted October 28, 2015 Super User Posted October 28, 2015 Scott, you're now going to be like the woman who has just bought a new "little black dress". It's time to accessorize. You ain't done spending money yet amigo. 2 Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted October 28, 2015 Author Super User Posted October 28, 2015 It's time to accessorize. You ain't done spending money yet amigo. All I need are some bits. Gonna hit up Harbor Freight tonight for their cheapie set. It'll be good enough for wood and acrylic. I bought the live center the day I got the lathe. 1 Quote
kcdinkerz Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 How much does one of those go for? Nice looking lathe. Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted October 29, 2015 Author Super User Posted October 29, 2015 How much does one of those go for? Nice looking lathe. If it wasn't on sale, $695. However, it was on sale for $595 plus an additional 20% clearance. 1 Quote
Batson Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 So when are we going to get custom grips from you?? We can help you with the blanks and cork rings if needed.. Quote
Batson Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Btw, If you can't afford to do the big expensive Lathe.. We have other options FYI: http://alpsforecast.com/product-category/gear-components/tools-supplies/tools/ Might not be as robust, but it will do the job. Quote
