I dropped my Vendetta with a Bass Pro Qualifier on in into 25 foot of water. How long can it stay in water before the reel becomes bad? It's already been two days

Sorry to hear that bro.

Last week I lost my balance and dropped a combo in the drink too. A helium3/ curado G. I was going to jump in after it when I saw that it was floating lol.

I had no idea a rod/ reel would not sink.

A momentary dunk in fairly clear water is not catastrophic. Once they lay on the bottom it's prudent to have a deep cleaning done. It's not a lost cause if you can retrieve it.

Get it soon.

Any deeper running CRANKBAIT that's hits the bottom should hook it.

True story. I lost a CRANKBAIT months ago. Using the same CRANKBAIT I hooked it while fishing. I wasn't looking for it. The hooks tarnished. Then I lost the CRANKBAIT I was using. Returned one then lost the other. Go figure. At my hot spots I stand in the exact same spot.

I pulled out a very old spinning reel setup probably from the 60's. The chrome eyes were rusted, the reel was rusted. I threw it back over board.

If you can retrieve it, based on my experience, a good reel service person can make it as good as new with the deep cleaning as DVT said.  I've been there, done that.

I was lucky mine was dropped within 15 feet of shore in 15 feet of water.  I knew within a few feet where it went down, still took me more than an hour to locate it with a video cam.  Locating it is the real problem, then snagging it with some sort of tool is the next.  I made one out of an old bike rim with the spokes bent to form hooks, mounted on my roof snow rake pole, but it still took me another hour to snag it.  I think the only way to get one back out of 25 feet would be to dive for it.  And you would have to know within a fairly short radius of where it went down.  Keep in mind it's not worth taking safety risks.  It may be that 25 feet  makes it an expensive lesson, but not the end of world.

If you can get it back in a day or two it should be fine. You will have yo have itcleaned though.

You can try to use an old metal stringer to retreive your lost rod and reel.  Attach the stringer to a rope  and use a large weight on the other end of the stringer.  Bend the hooks of the metal stringer outward .   I have heard several success stories using this method.

Well, your rod is lighter than air...

Carolina rig 3/4oz weight and at end of leader tie on 3 jig or shaky head jigs in all different directions. That will keep to the bottom best it can so just fan area. Hope u get it back, if you do call DVT.

Lost one rod in 10 ft of stained water while I was getting a fish off my dad's line. Threw crank baits for 2 days. No luck, the St.Croix is still on the bottom of the lake.

I accidently jad my reel slip over the side and was sitting in the water while I was unhooking a fish. Even that kinda messed it up and I could tell rght away. I had toa ke it apart and clean it even after that. It just wasn't the same.

I would say it depends on what your rig landed in. If it landed on gravel it shouldn't be bad. If it landed in weeds, or mud, you are going to have a nasty clean up on your hands if you can find it.

A few weeks ago I made an overhead cast with a jig and snagged my friends rod on the shore and it went flying into the water, $400+ combo. Luckily the water was fairly shallow and for some reason the tip floated up and I was able to snag it with a crankbait, no damage done. If I was you I would either be swimming or throwing a 10xd...

Lost a St croix mojo inshore with a battle 3000 to a fish when I lived in Wilmington NC while me and buddies were all excited that he just snagged a custom rod with Stradic fj 4000 that must not have been under for more then a day. Almost like the fish gods were mad with our find so they took my rig as payment. Spent an hour trying to search for it and snag it with all sorts of lures. Managed to snag it 4 days later while jigging for flounder the rod just needed a quick cleaning and I still use it to this day with an little extra "mojo" in it. The reel wasn't in horrible shape considering it just sat in saltwater for 4 days. Gave it a cleaning but still need to put it back together to really see how it feels.

I would definitely try to snag it and if its not salvagable you will have a great story to tell.
