Super User CWB Posted October 24, 2015 Super User Posted October 24, 2015 Had a great year with the swimjig. Lots of nice bass, pike, and a couple nice musky, along with a few biteoffs. Used several trailers including the baby and regular rage craw, the menace both vertical and horizontal, the small EZ swimmer and the big bite double tail grub. Was wondering what everybody else prefers. Always looking for new options. Quote
Uncle Leo Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 To mimic shad I will use a pearl colored 3 inch paddle tail. Quote
Super User Cgolf Posted October 24, 2015 Super User Posted October 24, 2015 Something a little different than what you listed is a Kalins 5" single tail grub. Caught a very solid musky and pike with that yesterday. Other than that similar to you, paca craws and a yum beaver styled bait rigged sideways did well too. Quote

Uncle Leo Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 Foots good Ken, barely slowed me down, at least no where near getting older,LOL. Did have to reduce standing at the trolling motor to 8 hours versus 12 hours. 1 Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted October 24, 2015 Global Moderator Posted October 24, 2015 Been having the greatest amount of success with a Skinny Dipper or Rage Craw. Gonna try a Rage Menace this weekend. Mike Quote
Cgrinder Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 4" Easy Shiner. Nice wiggle, moves the whole jig. They're about as durable as Kleenex though so I'm looking for an alternative. Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted October 24, 2015 Super User Posted October 24, 2015 4" ZMan Diezel Minnowz in Pearl , Blue Glimmer or Bad Shad ...Use a dab of super glue to secure on the swim jig - they have a nice action and longevity is not a problem . 1 Quote

They're about as durable as Kleenex though so I'm looking for an alternative. Try the Gabler EZ Swimmer or Little EZ Swimmer. Good value, best selection of colors, they last, and they catch fish. There were days when my son would outfish me using the doubletail and days when I would outfish him. Experiment and see what is working. I'm no dummy. When he lands 4 on the doubletail to my one on the swimbait, I'm switching to something with 2 legs. If he's still outfishing me I go copycat. Vica Versa too. Nice to have 2 people in the boat for that reason. Quote

Super User ww2farmer Posted October 25, 2015 Super User Posted October 25, 2015 I am a K.I.S.S. man when it comes to swim jig and chatterbait trailers. 99% of the time I am using a single tail 4" curly tail grub, the other 1% of the time a boot tailed swimming stick bait . For the grub, I use the 4" Berkley power grub..............cheap enough, durable enough, power stank, swims at slow speeds, and, best of all, the Walmart 5 mins. from my house stocks them for $3.49/bag, so when the swim jig bite is on, and I am in need of more, it's an easy re-stock mission. The swimming stick bait I use is the Yum swimming dinger, 1 Quote
Sonik Posted October 25, 2015 Posted October 25, 2015 I don't get too crazy either. I use a Zoom Fat Albert grub most of the time. If I want a little more action, I go to a twin tail grub. If I want some thump, it's a swimming/boot tail minnow. Quote

monkeyman3dee Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 I don't read of too many people using the yum money craw. The action on the fall and when swam is nice. Pretty good durability. -Joshua Quote
