HistoryNerd27 Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 Hi all, I've always been more of an all-purpose kind of guy with fishing rods, but I've decided this winter I want to try and organize my rods a little so I can get more technique specific. I've got my other rods figured out but I need to buy one that is more specific for moving baits. Do any of you guys know of a spinning rod that is decent for this kind of application? Anything that is decently versatile, since I'll be throwing squarebills, rattletraps, spinners, topwaters, and probably small swimbaits with it too. I know that baitcasting setups are better for this, but I've used spinning gear for 10 years and just can't really break myself from it. So please only spinning rods. Thanks guys. Quote
MikeFL52 Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 I have a St. Croix Mojo 6'8" Medium power/Fast action for that application. which I like quite a bit. Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted October 22, 2015 Super User Posted October 22, 2015 My suggestion is a St Croix VIS70MM. It's an Avid Series Inshore spinning rod 7' medium power moderate action. A moderate action rod gives you a more parabolic bend to keep treble hooked baits from tearing out. It retails for $230 and is included in their saltwater section. Quote
Super User bigbill Posted October 22, 2015 Super User Posted October 22, 2015 I do prefer the 6' med rods for most cranks, topwater, spinnerbaits, inlines fishing from shore. I know everyone will say 6'6", 7', 7'?". I just purchased the 6'6"/7' LEWS SPEED STICK spinning rods to try. Quote
blckshirt98 Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 I use a Phenix M1 7'2 M/XF rod for smaller/lighter crankbaits, and smaller/lighter baits in general - spinnerbaits, smaller profile topwater, smaller swimbaits. Quote
HistoryNerd27 Posted October 22, 2015 Author Posted October 22, 2015 Thanks for all the responses guys. I was looking at St. Croix's website a bit earlier and thought I needed to look at them more in-depth. I'm surprised so many people like the fast/extra fast models. I had always heard moderate was better for cranking. 1 Quote
d-camarena Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 Ive had a couple, my favorite is a 7ft medium moderate falcon bucoo. Its a really great rod. Quote
