RHuff Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 Alright Bassers, what time of day do you prefer this time of year. In my area, its in the 40s and 50s at night and around mid 70s in the day. Let's say its clear and sunny. Morning? Afternoon? Evening? Night? Quote
Dye99 Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 It changes throughout each season for me. Summer Im a evening guy. Fall I love to hit the water around 2pm, Winter are all day trips, and spring spawn its nice and early! Quote
Super User bigbill Posted October 22, 2015 Super User Posted October 22, 2015 My secret is...... Depends on the light conditions. I like over cast, cloudy days anytime in the fall. Quote
papajoe222 Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 If I'm able to choose a time, I prefer afternoon. More for light penetration because of the sun's angle than for the little effect it has on water temp. More reflection off my baits makes a difference in how many fish can see them and I believe that's a big benefit this time of year. Quote
Missourifishin Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 Just based on my personal schedule, the majority of the time I am able to get out in the late afternoon and fish until dark, sometimes even a little after dark. It seems to work well for me in the fall. And from my personal experience, it seems like that last hour or so before the daylight starts to decrease has been my best time. Quote

Super User WRB Posted October 22, 2015 Super User Posted October 22, 2015 Anytime I can get out on the water is a good time. The water column cools a little each day transitioning to winter cold water period and the bass are on the move. Location is always important, locating active bass is just as important in the fall as it is any time bass are hunting and feeding. Time on the water helps to determine where to fish and what lures are working. Tom 4 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted October 22, 2015 Super User Posted October 22, 2015 Anytime the wind will allow Seems this time of year there is routinely a ton of instability weather-wise and the wind just keeps cranking day after day after day after Day . . . But I'm not bitter . . . . A-Jay 6 Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted October 22, 2015 Super User Posted October 22, 2015 I'm happy to get out any time I can in the fall especially since I know my days are numbered before the water gets hard. Best time though I feel in in the afternoon into the evening. The sun has more of a chance to warm the water even if it's only a few degrees. Quote
lo n slo Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 I like fall afternoons myself but I've caught some good fish early. Quote
Super User scaleface Posted October 23, 2015 Super User Posted October 23, 2015 I went yesterday . Stared at 10 o'clock and caught a bass on the second cast . I caught 70 to 80 fish then at around five o'clock not even a strike . No weather change or anything . I'm guessing they had full bellies and were settling in for the night . Quote
Mainebass1984 Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 Given the conditions you mentioned I would fish from sunrise to at least sunset. Later on in the Fall when the water temps are in the high 40s and maybe if your lucky low 50s, I prefer to fish form 10-4 or so depending on the bite. In the mid to late fall I often have a better afternoon bite then a morning bite. 1 Quote
Super User Spankey Posted October 23, 2015 Super User Posted October 23, 2015 I have a thing for early a.m. fishing. I love being on the water at first light. Least amount or at times no wind. River can look like a sheet of glass. Yes the nights are longer and can be at freezing temps that early but I have gear for the cold. Quote

This for me too, although I still fish early and late even when the water is cold despite knowing it's not the best time to be out. 2 Quote
Mainebass1984 Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 This for me too, although I still fish early and late even when the water is cold despite knowing it's not the best time to be out. As long as it isn't terribly cold in the morning and evening I do at least attempt to be on the water more. Last week I was out at 10 am and it was 15 degrees out and that was a bit challenging. Lots of ice to deal with. Quote

Mainebass1984 Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 What , 15 degrees ? When I launched my boat it was a balmy 15 degrees F. Had to dress for ice fishing. The air was cold but the bite was hot after 11/1130. I think the day time high was 42 degrees, wind was harsh in the afternoon 5-10 mph with some much stronger gusts. It was a challenge staying warm out there but the fishing more than made up for any discomfort. 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted October 26, 2015 Super User Posted October 26, 2015 If I can I will try to get out around 9 AM and stay out until sunset. A one or two degree warm up in the water is sometimes all it will take to turn on the bite. 1 Quote
WPCfishing Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Depends on water temp and wind.. Right now where I am the water is fluctuating between 55-60 in the 2-4' area's on the north side where there is still some cover. I don't bother starting out until 11:00am. I'll fish til about 4:30 and head in. Quote
Evan K Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 I'm pretty much only able to fish during lunch breaks these days, so 12:10-13:00. I'd love to get out in the evenings or mornings but those are full. Quote
Super User Oregon Native Posted October 30, 2015 Super User Posted October 30, 2015 Love just getting on the water. Have had good days early and good days late. Normally take my time getting there and make it relaxing. Quote

lo n slo Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 Hit the water around 8 this morning. 57 degrees and rain. Fished in the rain for most of the day and caught 3 bass. Just could'nt seem to get things going today. Maybe next time. Quote
