CharcoalTodd Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Hi everyone, Just wondering if anyone has built or come across a converted jon boat to basser. Seems like a cool idea and could make a fun project. Happy Wednesday, Charcoal Quote
Super User Catt Posted October 21, 2015 Super User Posted October 21, 2015 I've 15 or 16 from as simple as just decks to decks with storage & rod compartments. They are fun if you have the money Quote

I can't answer that for you, but I can say that the mods made the boat much more comfortable and enjoyable to fish out of. But it ain't cheap. 1 Quote

I can thnk of sme smaller rivers around here where that might work very well. Quote

The reservoirs I fish are 200-800 acre electric-only lakes so it's not like I could go that far anyway. But I can say I've fished all day, fished spots respective of distance from ramp, etc. and never had a concern about not getting back. Just gotta keep your batteries maintained... Quote

Thanks Chris...I find this idea really interesting...at most I'd want to fish up river a couple of miles...or fish down and run back up...do you think it'd work for something like that? Quote
Skunked again Posted October 24, 2015 Posted October 24, 2015 I think you'd be fine, I have a 75# thrust on a g3 1756 w/a 50hp on the back. I frequent a lake with a 25hp limit, I can launch/load with engine, that's it. I go 5 miles, roundtrip, no problems. Get the highest amp charger you can afford, and the biggest batts you can afford and handle the weight. As mentioned, maintenance is key. As for "is it worth the money?" My answer is YES. I did my mod on my own, I enjoyed it. You also get a boat setup how you want! Not settling. Quote
Super User Further North Posted October 24, 2015 Super User Posted October 24, 2015 I run a 36 volt system on my boat - Crestliner CMV 1850 - it it'll run pretty much all day when used as a trolling motor...I was making sure that a couple of miles against current wouldn't kill a system, particularly with multiple trolling motors on the same set of batteries. I keep my batteries in top shape with a Minn Kota charger, I would do the same in an electric powered river rig like this. Quote

Hmmm...I've never fished the boat in a place where river current was an issue so I've got no experience to fall back on. I'd guess it's doable, assuming the current is not really strong, but I'm guessing it would certainly be slow-going when you're battling current with only a trolling motor. Quote
