Super User Darren. Posted October 23, 2015 Super User Posted October 23, 2015 The drag is essential component of a good spinning reel using light line for bass fishing. After the rod loads up the drag better work smoothly or good bye bass. Tom All the reel needs to do is store and retrieve line. The rod will fight the fish. A 1000 size should be more than adequate. Agree with both of these. My Stradics have excellent drag systems, and my palm acts as the extra drag when needed. Never had an issue. I've found great success fighting bass with M rods from 5'9" to 6'6" on the 1000s. Quote
desmobob Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 Any size reel with a good drag will work fine. I like 1000-size reels for their lighter weight. I use a Daiwa Tournament SS 1300 Whisker (1000 size spooled with 20# braid) for inshore striped bass fishing and it does just FINE! Tight lines, Bob Quote
