Probably the only person here that will say this but I am a certified yoga teacher and certified yoga therapist. If you can start doing just these http://1yoga4all.com/surya-namaskar/sivananda-style-surya-namaskara

Most of your problems will likely go away from doing this for 15 minutes or so every morning and after long days on the water.

I'm looking at my 6th shoulder or arm surgery since 1999.

Exercise and stretch your upper arms and shoulders as much as you can. Shoulders deteriorate. Think about how much energy is leveraged against your shoulders during a hook set, or a fight.

Protect you arms and shoulders. When they're bad fishing can become a chore instead of fun.

The right rod can do a lot of the work for you. I don't own the correct rod, LOL! But I do use a M 6'6"  that loads up pretty well before casting cranks and other medium-to-heavy treble baits. Standing helps, but I can't do it from my kayak.

Welcome to Oldsville, population you (and me). If I have to cast a BC combo with a heavy bait a lot for 3-4 hours, I'll usually feel it in my right shoulder at least the next day. If I have to stand a long time I feel it in my lower back that night.

Brilliant, wish you were closer.

I do this http://www.diamonddallaspage.com/   every day. I was a three sport athlete in my younger days, my significant other still runs 10+ miles a day and was a professional ballerina-it kicks our butts. At 38, flexibility is much more important to me than strength. The spinal alignment that takes place with Yoga is like a daily trip to the chiropractor! There's nothing like Yoga, at 38, I am never sore anymore, where at 30 it took me half and hour to really get out of bed.

Take a couple Ibuprofen an hour before you start casting.. Get rods that will do most the work for you. Visit a chiropractor twice a month. You'll be good to go.
