I'm just curious if anybody fishes Two years on the same line. I am pretty good with always respooling my reels in the spring but I'm getting all my gear ready for winter (normally strip all the line off) but I just hate throwing away $200 worth of line. I tried to fish two years on flouro on a spinning reel and hated it but does the spool on a baitcaster make it any better?

Actually I have used the same line for 2 years. I want also tell you I have used the same line for 3 years. The line I am referring to is Tatsu and one of its properties is longevity. For casting reels I have used 12# and for spinning 6#. Also keep in mind that some,of my reels may see less than 10 outings a year and only get used for about 7 months out of the year. I am not sure if the results would change if I fished year round or some of reels were used more often. Nevertheless Tatsu is a great line and has a longer shelf life than other lines I have used.

On almost all my baitcasters I run abrazX and fish for maybe 5-6 months a year. Do you notice a ton of line twist?

With Tatsu I dont experience any line twist. I would suggest buying some when there is a sale. If you can get it for $30ish a spool, and back the reel some it will get you 2-3 reels off of one spool. It has been years since I have used Abrisix so I can't recall how that line would fair.

Out of laziness, I ran the same Vanish on most of my flouro rods this year as I did last year.   A couple spinning reels I did change, and one casting.    No ill effects.

I read that fluoro isn't as susceptible to UV ray damage as mono, so you should be able to get more mileage out of it...just how much, I haven't found any info on that yet.

I'm not too worried about the UV damage more so the fact that its sitting on my spools for 7 months without any use and the memory is going to be bad.

I typically run all my bait casters until I've chopped them down to where I'm about to start casting my backing line. Liberal use of a line conditioner helps keep it alive. 

 

I buy line in bulk and I soak my new spools with conditioner before I ever put them on a reel.  Then use more as I'm applying line to the reel. My line tends to last at least 2-3 years.

 

I also store my bulk spools of line in a cabinet so the sun can't hit them. With the price of FLuro I can't afford to throw it away when it's still got use left in it.

Shelf life means the length of time the can be stored properly on it's original spool, no used on a reel.

Temperature changes will cause line to take a set at whatever diameter around the spool it's spooled on.

Reel have small diameter spools and after taking a set at that small diameter it will come off the spool in small coils like a spring or slinky.

If the line has been on a reel a few months without use, tie the end to something and walk off 50 yards or so and pull on it. Lay the line next to the rod tip between a wet towel, untie the end and re spool the line running it between your thumb and index finger to feel any defects.

What kills FC line is heat and cold cycles and being stretched with a pulling force over 1/2 it's lb test.

I always changed mine every year regardless of whether it needed to be or not, but this last year I ended up only changing line on the reels that were low. I wondered if the fluoro would be able to make it through the year, and sure enough it did without any problems. For what it's worth, I use Berkley 100% and haven't noticed any issues with memory. Can't comment for use on spinning though as I switched to braid this year for them.
