Super User flyfisher Posted October 23, 2015 Super User Posted October 23, 2015 But a gazillion people will invade the place were u caught it. I feel bad for the fish. If you really felt bad i don't think you would fish at all. i mean those sharp hooks and all and hurting their mouths... Quote
Super User bigbill Posted October 23, 2015 Author Super User Posted October 23, 2015 I think of all those bass being caught ending up on the dinner table. The bass populations being thinned out. The garbage being left at the place by garbage. My hot spot for shore fishing being changed so much I need a boat to continue fishing. Quote
Turtle135 Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 If I catch a state record largemouth or smallmouth bass I will need somebody around so we can video the release. A couple of still pictures and then back into the water for that big gal. Quote
bassr95 Posted October 23, 2015 Posted October 23, 2015 A state record fish is probably near the end of its lifespan, so I don't think killing it would have much impact on the population as a whole. 1 Quote
GoCougs14 Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 I do not expect ever to catch a state record bass. The Michigan record LMB dates to 1934, and was tied in 1959. SMB dates to 1906. I do fish the lake that produced the 1934 record sometimes, although it doesn't have a reputation as a frequent big fish producer now, if it ever did. But supposing i did catch one? Well, I fish alone almost always, with no livewell, or any other way to keep a fish alive long enough to release successfully after getting it witnessed and/or certified. And I won't keep one, even a trophy. So I'd take pictures of the fish and measurements...and beyond that, I guess I'd just have a fish story. didnt the SMB record just get broken there?Edit: nvn, shouldve read the thread haha Quote
BassMaster17 Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 If I broke the Georiga record it would be the world record... Soooo ya... Wait what?? the world record bass wasn't caught in Georgia, What species are you referring to Quote
Super User bigbill Posted October 30, 2015 Author Super User Posted October 30, 2015 Lmb record world record was caught in Georgia. In fact the guy who broke the world record caught a bigger one they ate it and didn't record it. Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted October 30, 2015 Super User Posted October 30, 2015 Wait what?? the world record bass wasn't caught in Georgia, What species are you referring to George Perry's Georiga bass is tied with a bass caught in Japan, the Japanese bass beat it by an ounce or two I believe but I think it has to beat it by a certain amount to actually be a new world record... (Don't quote me on that lol) But the legitamcy of Perry's bass is controversial. Quote
Super User MIbassyaker Posted October 30, 2015 Super User Posted October 30, 2015 didnt the SMB record just get broken there? Edit: nvn, shouldve read the thread haha It was caught the day after I posted that, lol! Quote
WPCfishing Posted October 31, 2015 Posted October 31, 2015 Bill, I've become a trophy hunter. I want to break my state record. Large Mouth is 10.6 and Small Mouth is 5.5.. I may have had the Large Mouth a month ago. I lost him because I made a stupid mistake. I hoisted him. Like I've mention in other threads, I know where he lives. I'll get em. Quote
Jaderose Posted November 2, 2015 Posted November 2, 2015 I don't even take pictures. I catch em, admire em a second or 2 and release them. I know I've qualified for Missouri's "Master Angler" certificate on multiple occasions but I just don't care. I don't fish for money or records and the places I do fish are pretty isolated. Giving them media coverage would ruin them. No thanks. I fish for me and if someone thinks I'm lying about something without proof...well.....I AM a fisherman. Maybe I am! Quote
