I only have a rod with a reel and I'm looking to invest in a couple more rods and reels so, what are your 3- 5 rod and reel sets and why(Budget friendly if posible).

Example

Set 1: X rod with Y reel with Z line for  A,B, and C technique.

Set 2: X rod with Y reel with Z line for  A,B, and C technique.

Set 3: X rod with Y reel with Z line for  A,B, and C technique.

Set 4: X rod with Y reel with Z line for  A,B, and C technique.

Thanks!

It isn't that simple.   What lake?  What time of year?   Boater or Co-angler?  Seasonal patterns?   When I was fishing Ozark BFL as a co-angler, I'd bring 15 or so rigs to the tournament and wouldn't make any final decisions about what to pack until after I'd spoken to the boater after the draw.

A few examples:  It probably isn't necessary to bring a jerk bait rig to a summer tournament.  Early spring, boater says he is fishing primary and secondary points, probably unnecessary to bring a decimated spinner bait rod.  Boater says he likes to move fast & cover water, the Ned rig might be in the way.

These days, if I were fishing as a co-angler, I'd bring a shaky head rig, for sure and a couple of jig rods.   Every other decision would wait until after the conversation with the boater after the draw.

If you know who you are fishing with days prior to the tournament, make plans accordingly.

Basically it isn't as simple a question as you might think - better information would get better answers.  There are few all purpose answers.

Here´s what I carry in my boat with me most times.

1.- GLoomis SJR782 6-8 lb test

2.- 2 GLoomis MBR783 10 & 12 lb test

2.- 2 GLoomis MBR784 14 & 17 lb test

Reels: depends on which ones I want to carry that day, the list is long.

I happen to use 5 myself. Looking at a 6th, but could make do with 3 or 4.

1. Tatula 7'6" H/F+Tatula type r 8.1

2. Tatula 7'1" MH/MF+Tatula 7.3

3. Tatula 7'7" M/M Glass+T3 Ballistic (1016) 6.3

4. MS-X 6'5" ML/MF+SS SV 6.3

5. Volkey 6'8" L/MF+T3 1016 (sv1000) 6.3

1) Flipping/Pitching, Frogging, C-Rigs, Deep Cranks

2) Pitching, T-Rigs, Squarebills/Vibes, Spinnerbaits/Chatterbaits, Jerkbaits

3) Cranks, Topwaters, Jerkbaits

4) Mag finesse (Wacky rigs, Finesse Jigs, Spybaits, etc.)

5) Anything finesse (Ned rigs, Mojo rigs, 1/8-1/4 cranks, etc.)

I use appropriate dia braid on everything, with fluoro leaders when necessary and move reels around as gear ratio dictates.

Thanks! awesome answer!

No problem. I know some of it isn't exactly budget friendly, but if you shop around, you never know. FWIW the two Light setups are my favorite to fish and biggest producers.
