Bassh2o Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 So which are the major brands for Japanese rods from Japan? Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted October 15, 2015 Super User Posted October 15, 2015 Just a few to get you started. Megabass Evergreen Jackall/Shimano Majorcraft Gan craft Jackson rods Daiwa Quote
Super User bigbill Posted October 15, 2015 Super User Posted October 15, 2015 Are any of there marked made in China? Quote
IAY Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Are any of there marked made in China?A lot of them have blanks made from China, Malaysia, or Thailand.Edit* rolled is more accurate. most of their carbon material is made in Japan I believe. Quote
Super User Raul Posted October 15, 2015 Super User Posted October 15, 2015 Are any of there marked made in China? If it´s made in China it says Made in China. I have a few Japanese made in China rods from Olympic Fishing/GraphiteLeader and they are fantastic rods. Made in ------ ( place whatever country name you want ) with poor quality components/workmanship/quality control is poor quality no matter where it´s made ( and that includes the dearest US of A ). 1 Quote
Super User bigbill Posted October 15, 2015 Super User Posted October 15, 2015 I just purchased a made in China med spinning bass rod. The rod rating isn't correct as most of the other rods. This Chinese spinning rod feels good. Quote
poisonokie Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Most of them are made in china for the JDM, just like most of ours are made there for the USDM. In my limited experience (2 rods from one maker) their concept for what a rod should be aligns more closely with my own compared to what is standard for the US. Quote

I'd have to agree. It doesn't really matter where it's made. It all has to do with components and quality control. There was a time when Japanese cars were junk. There was also a time American cars were junk. It's all stereo type and after several time you use something from some where and find out it's junk then everything is junk from the same place. My original question was to ask the option and popularity as to what makers are there. Quote
poisonokie Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 Based on a 68L/mf bfs volkey and 65ml/mf ms-x, Major Craft would be very hard to beat in terms of quality and value alike. Quote
poisonokie Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 domestic availability is a different story, though, depending on the model, but still better than JDM Daiwa rods. Quote

This Chinese spinning rod feels good. Ok, I'm going to sound like an arse but in your opinion which is the "correct" rod rating ? Quote
Super User bigbill Posted October 16, 2015 Super User Posted October 16, 2015 The ratings say medium yet each rod will feel different. There is no uniform standards for rating. Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted October 16, 2015 Super User Posted October 16, 2015 That would be power not ratings. Ratings would be more like lure weights. You started a post about this and we've tried to explain it. Power = heavy - medium - light Quote
Super User Raul Posted October 16, 2015 Super User Posted October 16, 2015 The ratings say medium yet each rod will feel different. There is no uniform standards for rating. So what´s your point ? you asked this not long ago and several of us gave you the answer. What does being made in China has to do with power and action ratings ? In your opinion which is the "correct" rating ? Quote
Super User bigbill Posted October 16, 2015 Super User Posted October 16, 2015 Raul maybe with the more expensive rods the rod blanks are a much better quality. The power is more equal. To me some rods feel a different power as we go up the rod. It's not a smooth taper/power wise. It's like I have a medium rod from the handle halfway up the rod then it's a lite power to the tip. Very flexible. Let me correct this cheaper affordable rods. Quote
bigfruits Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 i love you, bigbill. Daiko and Smith are a couple others... Quote
Super User bigbill Posted October 17, 2015 Super User Posted October 17, 2015 O gosh I said something wrong. I felt a while back I could use any fishing rod. But after reading here I got into trying different power rods for certain baits. I'm learning. I have a few new LEWS SPEED STICK rods that feel good. Quote

Very flexible. you didnt really say anything wrong. power is a type of rating i guess. you just have to be specific that you are talking about the power rating and not the lure weight rating. the power marked on a rod is just puts it in a category, how boring would it be if all MH rods felt the same: same tip, same bend etc... japanese rods are generally more expensive with nicer components than american or chinese rods. the kind of rod you have to pick up when you walk by it. this is enthusiast type gear. you know, when you rather spend money on your fishing gear instead of getting new rims on your car or pay for your kid's college. Super User bigbill Posted October 17, 2015 Super User Posted October 17, 2015 My kids are done with college. No car rims needed. Open season on fishing gear. I'm a simple man living a simple life just don't mess with my fishing. 2 Quote
