I have caught some big teen channel cats on Erie using jerkbaits.

I caught a 8 lb cat in a pond on a horse farm in Ky on a crankbait. Great fight, thought I had a huge bass but was happy with the Cat.

While I haven't ever targeted catfish, I have caught them on the following - spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and jerkbaits.  So far no plastics or jigs.

Edit: How could I forget Chatterbaits - they love those things!

That is the best feeling UNTIL you feel it 'death roll'...

Yup, Cranks, spinner baits, bladed jigs (hello breaking a wrist), jigs, soft plastics. I've even caught them on top water.

Heart break hotel....

I caught one in about 2 feet of water on a weightless Yum Dinger. Thought I had a huge smallie on for a few seconds until it started rolling haha.

Lost a rapala x-rap to a monster cat, or maybe a carp. Never will know, didnt land it, it was pulling drag like crazy (i keep a tight drag) couldn't get ANY line in. Wrapped up against a stump and sayanara.

Shakes head, crank, jerkbait. They will absolutely knock the crap out of a big glide bait but I haven't hooked any yet.

They'll eat about any lure you can put in front of their face long enough for them to grab it. Have caught them on spoonplugs, jigs, worms, tubes, spinnerbaits and crankbaits. Picked up two nice channels just this week bass fishing.

This one came on a #6 Shad Rap and 8# line   :)

Dont let the ugly mugs fool ya.just cause they look lazy dont mean anything they are like any other fish minus the bling and are opportunity eaters and add that there whole body is a nose so in reality they can do anything other fish can do PLUS have a sense of smell that makes them a superpredator..i used to keep babybass baby bluegill and baby catfish in a tank the cats would out swim and out eat both and they where smaller even

Wait until one blast a buzzbait on you. I've caught 2 channels and a flathead on a buzzbait, biggest explosions I've ever seen. Had a heartbreak last cast of the tournament channel cat on a bladed jig Saturday.

This was just a couple weeks ago on one of my bladed jigs.

I've caught them on rattle-traps, crankbaits, jigs, and plastics.  Have a friend that was on fire with a home made rat a few summers ago.  Had 5 one night on that thing.  Sadly, the bass didn't find it as appealing but they were pretty awesome topwater bites.  Everyone I've hooked over 5lbs felt like they were going to rip the rod out of my hand when they hit.  No tap tap there.

I once went to a tiny muddy pond in search of fish. Since i don't know whats in there i tied on a buckatil jig (AKA ol' faithful) I found one spot where i could just toss my jig in and slowly drag it across the bottom. On my first cast there was suddenly a resistance as if it were stuck. I set the hook anyways and turned out i hooked something. I ended up with my first catfish which was really exciting. I kept casting in the same place and caught about 15 cats and 1 8in bass. I don't know why people dislike catfish, they pull really hard and start doing a "death roll" when they get close to the bank. They are probably the strongest freshwater fish out there.
