Super User ChrisD46 Posted October 14, 2015 Super User Posted October 14, 2015 For those of you who C-Rig a lizard , what style hook do you use and do you rig the hook sideways through the lizard or up & down ? Also , I only really see the Zoom 6" lizards - any other brand lizards you like on a C-Rig ? Thanks in advance ! Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted October 14, 2015 Super User Posted October 14, 2015 Rage Tail only or me. I suggest trying another presentation, too: Jika Rig. Quote
Bruce424 Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 3/0 eagle claw ewg I like the zoom lizards too... but my secret weapon is z man lizards they float off the bottom. Quote
KDW96 Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 I still crig lizards& trig them too. As far as rigging ive done both ways, and honestly have seen no advantage one over the other. Just my experience. Ive used alot of brands, and the BPS brand is just as good as zoom. Recently ive been using Power Team Lures lizard,i like the tail movement better, not to mention the massive quantity i got a at cheap price. Quote
DaleGribble Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 I use zmans lizards as they float. Rage lizards are also really good but zoom or other generic lizrds work well too. I use a 3/0 ewg offset as well. I find lizards most productive for me when c rigged. Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted October 15, 2015 Author Super User Posted October 15, 2015 Great replies ! Quote
Global Moderator Mike L Posted October 15, 2015 Global Moderator Posted October 15, 2015 3/0 also. Zoom or Rage.. With a small 3/0 rigging either way will work Mike Quote
Super User scaleface Posted October 15, 2015 Super User Posted October 15, 2015 the Zoom Lizard is my favorite C rig lure .I use a lot of different hooks because i pick them up at clearance sales .I choose one that the gap is twice the width of the lizard. Before rigging the lizard I hold it up to the hook and eyeball how it lies . Some hooks work better Texposed and some hooks work better buried . I like those screw lock hooks too .. 1 Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted October 15, 2015 Super User Posted October 15, 2015 Those rage lizards are awesome... i use zoom too, but really like the action on the rage lizards. Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted October 16, 2015 Author Super User Posted October 16, 2015 It appears the Rage Tail Lizard is worth looking into ... Quote
Super User Catt Posted October 16, 2015 Super User Posted October 16, 2015 Black Blue Tail with lots of glitter in the tail Offset round bend hook for 2 reasons, it lays flatter to the bait, & I throw C-rigs in heavier cover than most. Rage Tail works great but do not ignore Flip Tail! Quote
Super User bigbill Posted October 16, 2015 Super User Posted October 16, 2015 I use eagle claw weedless hooks on everything when I can even my wacky rigged senko. On lizzards and creature baits. I fish from shore along side weedlines. I'm using a 1/8oz Carolina rig with a 24" leader. Picking the correct hook size is my problem. Now I figured out to pick what I think is the correct hook size and go one size larger. Make sure we use a big enough hook for old bucket mouth. Quote
atcoha Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 another vote for the 3/0 hooks. I prefer the gama's. Love the rage lizards, but expensive. Zooms and berkley's work great. Might try the zman lizards, Quote
dam0007 Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 2/0 light wire offset wide gap. I use the Zoom 6" lizards as well. I use fluorocarbon as main line and mono as leader. The light hook combined with the mono allows it to sink slower. or while pulling through sparse weeds allows it to get hung up and stay therefor presentation purposes. Quote
clh121787 Posted October 18, 2015 Posted October 18, 2015 Z man and zoom for sure. I try and use the smallest hook I can get away with. And no ewg for me. Usually 3/O offset gammy. Is plenty for 8 inch lizard. 2/0 for 6 inch. I have straightened out hooks on big fish with braid. If I'm fishing braid I always use a superline hook Quote
Super User MIbassyaker Posted October 18, 2015 Super User Posted October 18, 2015 I use lizards most often on a mojo rig, Zoom, Zman, Berkley, others....honestly don't see much need to split hairs over brands, or even hook size (2/0 or 3/0 are fine for 6"). I tend toward lighter tackle, so I often use light-wire hooks, but I've also bent LW hooks on braid, even on smaller fish with a medium spinning rod. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted October 19, 2015 Super User Posted October 19, 2015 I don't C-rig very much. This year, a lizard on a home made jika rig has been a very good producer for me. Best lizard so far this year is a YUM Zellemander. Ties for second would be a YUM Sallemander ( like a regular lizard with little boot tails on the various appendages) or a Berkley Lizard. I find that a regular bend 3/0 hook (Gamakatsu or Trokar) , skin hooked, gets better, more consistent hook ups than a wide gap hook does. Quote
