Super User roadwarrior Posted October 13, 2015 Super User Posted October 13, 2015 Spurrier is out! http://www.foxnews.com/us/2015/10/13/it-my-fault-south-carolina-football-coach-steve-spurrier-resigns/?intcmp=hplnws Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted October 13, 2015 Super User Posted October 13, 2015 Good riddance? Shoot man, tell us what you REALLY think. Quote
Super User gardnerjigman Posted October 13, 2015 Super User Posted October 13, 2015 Bold move, but honestly a needed move. At this point, every loss with him as a coach did terrible damage to the schools "atractveness". Kudos to coach for the brass to step up for the team and school future. 1 Quote
PourMyOwn Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 Gamecocks bowl victories all time before Spurrier-3 (2 vs my Buckeyes, but it got Cooper fired...) With Spurrier, they have won their last four bowl games-in a row, five of the last six vs Clemson. They aren't attractive without the Head Ball Coach, especially with Tennessee and Florida gaining steam. Quote
Super User Long Mike Posted October 14, 2015 Super User Posted October 14, 2015 I hate to see Spurrier resign. I always thought he had a cute butt. Quote
BassThumbAddict Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 Is SC considered a "good" job? I like to think that it is equivalent to a Missouri? Then again I could be completely off base. Quote

SC isn't considered a good job, per se. It's an average major conference gig. I would say Missouri is better because of the recruiting base, and that more guys have won there. Minus Holtz and Spurrier, SC has done nothing. They may be able to lure in a top coordinator at a big school, like it just depends on who is out there this year. Whoever it is must keep the Carolina players at home, there's always a few top caliber kids in state. Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted October 14, 2015 Super User Posted October 14, 2015 Its unfortunate that he recruited last offseason a bunch of kids with the hope of playing for him, a big time coach..then when the season starts poorly he bails instead of at least seeing it thru the year. Quitter. Loser. 1 Quote
Jd_Phillips_Fishin Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 Spurrier and Bevo both retiring, sad week in CFB http://www.burntorangenation.com/2015/10/13/9525271/texas-longhorns-bevo-leukemia-retirement Quote
Super User South FLA Posted October 17, 2015 Super User Posted October 17, 2015 In my opinion he should have rode the season out to the end, I bet many of his recruits and team members are upset that he "abandoned the team. " However, he was one of the best to ever coach the game and I think if he would have gone to a larger more prominent program other than S.C. he could have had another Championship ring! His head to head against Nick Saban, is in his favor! 1 Quote
Al Wolbach Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 It seems most people love him or hate him but I think nearly everyone will admit the man was a good head coach. I suspect he quit mid season due to pressure from fans and boosters and he left on his terms..... Quote
Ima Bass Ninja Posted October 19, 2015 Posted October 19, 2015 Spurrier lost his passion 2 years ago. He has let spurrier Jr. Call plays the last 2 seasons. Contrary to previous post USC is not a adv major conference job. The school has the highest level of facilities, a great fan base, and I'm sure as spurrier said himself " the pay ain't bad." I went to yesterday's game without spurrier and even though it wasn't packed ( mostly due to the state fair) there was plenty of support that came out. USC will have several years of rebuilding regardless of who takes the HBC job as their talent is lacking at the moment. Quote
