Hey guys,

My friend who doesn't know how to use a baitcast properly really messed up my reel. He was fishing and managed to get my line all caught up INSIDE the geers of the handle in my reel. The reel is the SHIMANO CITICA, 2014 version. Basically he had the line go around the handle and kept cranking and the line was being sucked into the reel. I had to cut the line because there was no way of pulling it all out...

I'm guessing I have to open up the reel to get to the line caught up inside.. I'm also guessing the line is near a bearing of some sort. Are there any video's out there on how to open my reel up properly? Is it hard?

let me know!!!

:)

i don't think you'll even open the reel up.  you'll take the handle assembly apart and should then be able to work that line out of there.  but that may depend on the severity of the issue.

PAY CLOSE ATTENTION to how you take it apart (photos will help).  Don't lose any pieces and if possible, get the schematics out that came with the reel to help you get it back together.

Good luck!

Just remove the spool as you would to oil the bearings. It's no big deal.

Seems that he is talking about the handle side.

Well, then I guess you take the handle off, but I don't think the

line can work itself into the body of the reel.

Take it all apart for a good cleaning and lubing anyway.

You can visit YouTube. There should be several videos about reels like yours. Most Shimanos are very similar in how they come apart and reassemble. Let us know what you find out but I am guessing it will be an easy fix.

I think it just is wrapped around, not inside. Don't take it apart until you try unwinding the loose end from the handle/drag.

I also don't think the line can get into the reel, but it would be great for you to learn how to work on your own reel. It is easy to do and very satisfying when you can fix it yourself. Here isa video that helped me.

I never, ever, EVER give a BC reel to anyone. If they know how to use one, they should have one. I have a friend who can screw up a cup of coffee when it comes to reels. His personal record (and probably a world record) is having a bird nest on his third cast with a spinning combo. We were still on the boat ramp. :eyebrows:  :pray: a 45 YEAR OLD MAN!

I finally gave him a spinning combo so he'd quit messing mine up. He brings it by here and I re-spool it for him every now and then.

found a video on youtube taking the citica apart for maintenance. Was able to basically take off the handle and saw the line that was lodged, took it out and now the reel works great! Thanks for the tips guys!
