EricTheAngler Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 I fish at a pond near my home up the road. The bass love night-crawlers on a bobber. I have only have hits on black trick worms t rigged. What lures should I use, the fish are only up to 1 pound? Quote
Super User Senko lover Posted October 13, 2015 Super User Posted October 13, 2015 First of all, this is kind of confusing. By "lures" do you mean hard baits? Also, how do you know that the bass are only up to one pound? Almost every pond is going to have at least one lunker that's bigger than the rest, I've found that with every small pond I've fished. I would suggest a wacky rigged trick worm, senko, dropshot, shakeyhead, small popper, or inline spinner. Those are all great ways to get a lot of bites. Also, it would help to know if there's any cover in the pond. 1 Quote

Theres a fallen tree in the corner and the rest is mud flats. Theres is no grass because of a grass carp that weighs 40 pounds in the pond. There is a deep section in the middle. Ive never caught the big bass. Quote

Ive never caught the big bass. You're good, bro. If we're going to help, it's beneficial to know more information. I'd definitely be targeting that fallen tree, and fishing a texas rig (weighted) on the mud. I'd suggest a Rage Craw as a killer texas rig bait, and a 1/4 oz. bullet sinker. Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted October 13, 2015 Super User Posted October 13, 2015 a small size topwater popper usually does well for me in smaller ponds where the fish aren't all that big. a small white/bone color popper should do the trick. lots of options to try out, but this time of year i'd definitely be throwing a popper out there at least for a few casts Quote

All I can add is to throw more inline spinners and shakey heads real slow. And throw to any structure you have at least 10 times with each bait before changing baits or moving on. Walk 50-feet from the bank and make sure your shadow is not on the water. Don't forget your needle nose pliers! Good luck and please post pics of what you catch. 1 Quote
blckshirt98 Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 Those small bass will destroy a 3-4" plastic on a dropshot. Use a size 4 hook and nosehook the plastic. Quote

Super User geo g Posted October 14, 2015 Super User Posted October 14, 2015 Right now the bite in the everglades is tough. I have been using this technique for months. I will slow down to a crawl and often just let it sit for up to a minute. I will down size to a 4" senko or a zoom centipede, with a light bullet weight like a 1/32. The 1/32 causes a slow fall and a more natural dyeing bait drop. Let out some line on the drop so it slowly drifts and flutters down. They have plenty of time to see the bait and decide if its worth investigating. Always watch your line for the slightest movement. Over the years this has produced loads fish during difficult times, and many big fish. If it is windy you will have to add weight. Quote
BaitMonkey1984 Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 KISS. Keep it simple stupid is my motto. For beginners, or for anyone struggling to get bit I like to resort back to easy to use lures. This would include dead sticking a 5" senko bait. Also, I would agree with Ike that a spinnerbait and a small grub on a jghead are also impossible to fish incorrectly. Try a spinner bait, fun to cast and usually produces well, especially during the Fall. Quote
Super User scaleface Posted October 14, 2015 Super User Posted October 14, 2015 Use a 1/4 ounce Beetle Spin . Quote
ogbfishing Posted October 14, 2015 Posted October 14, 2015 i would try handgrenades if it's small enough Quote
ZachSnod Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 I fish a pond close to my house some of the fish are big and some are small just depends on the day and depth I choose to fish. I usually use a junebug senko in a 4" size with a 2/0 lazer sharp worm hook you can also try a bubblegum color. Another good method is using the Booyah pond magic spinnerbaits in the 1/8oz or 3/16oz. Even try a Booyah Buzzbait in the 1/8oz. A slow retrieve on those baits works really well. Usually when the water is cold I found that the bass like a slower retrieve when using a spinnerbait or buzzbait. Quote

Ordering the inline spinners and senkos. They will come Tuesday. But this fish Is what i caught on the zoom trick worm, black. Small little fish. But hey its still a fish. Quote

5fishlimit Posted December 18, 2015 Posted December 18, 2015 You said that a black trick worm texas rigged has worked for you. Why not continue using that? Quote
