Super User iceintheveins Posted October 13, 2015 Super User Posted October 13, 2015 Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein have proposed a bill that would mandate the killing of all black bass, stripers, and other sportfish in the Cal Delta. Nonnative fish are being used as a scapegoat for declines of native species like Salmon, Delta Smelt, and Hitch, when the real reason are the plethora of dams. I know this isn't a political site, but I feel people need to know, and to write EVERY SINGLE congressman and Senator telling them to oppose this bill. The killing of nonnative sporting fish has already failed to aid the endangered fish of the Colorado River basin, which is a considerably larger river than the Sacramento. It's also failed in Australia to bring back the Murray Cod. The real reason, we all know, are dams and diversions. Look this up online and please write to those in power. Clear Lake may be in danger too. Quote
Josh Smith Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 Those two blame everything but the culprit for anything that happens, it seems. Not sure if writing to Hoosier congressmen will do any good, but I'll try anyway. 2 Quote
fisherrw Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 That is so lame I'm tempted to write in too. Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted October 14, 2015 Author Super User Posted October 14, 2015 Write all of the congressmen and senators because it may come up for a vote in the US Senate and House. Don't let them kill for no reason like they have already done in Colorado, and have accomplished nothing in bringing back endangered rough fish. 1 Quote
Super User WRB Posted October 15, 2015 Super User Posted October 15, 2015 The specific bill being voted on is S1894 to eradicate non native fish including stripe bass and largemouth bass from the delta. Tom. Quote
Caliyak Posted October 15, 2015 Posted October 15, 2015 Its hard to not go political when it comes to California leaders, so I will only say, call and write to your local leaders to vote against this. I will stop before saying something crazy and get kicked out. Quote
Super User WRB Posted October 15, 2015 Super User Posted October 15, 2015 The S1894 bill, sections 203 & 204 mandates the removal of stripe bass, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, bluegill, crappie, channel and white catfish, brown bull heads and a long list of aquatic plants and baitfish that are non native species from the San Jaquin delta and it's tributaries. This would be nearly an impossible tasks, extremely costly, devastate the local economy and sportsman everywhere will lose a world class fishery. This bill is sponsored by Senitors Barabra Boxer and Dianne Feinstein. Tom 2 Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted October 15, 2015 Super User Posted October 15, 2015 Unbelievable.. But not really, considering the 2 sponsoring this. Best of Luck fighting.. The black flag sir... 3 Quote

Super User WRB Posted October 21, 2015 Super User Posted October 21, 2015 The S1984 bill passed without opposition. The impact; if you catch a stripe bass, largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, crappie, blue gill anywhere in the massive San Jaquin delta or any of it's tributaries you must kill the fish. No more catch and release tournaments can be held. Amazing! Tom Quote
2833-34497 Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 Yeah after they screw the CA Delta they still will do the same thing to Clear Lake because of the Hitch. Can you see nice tourney bags after weigh in being destroyed? Only option to avoid this and hope the bill gets killed/changed before it passes at next level. Between this, the tunnels and banning lead fishing products in CA they're trying to screw fisherman in name of water rights is what it comes down to. Sign petitions, send emails (Restore the Delta and Western Bass has links) and do whatever you can because the fisherman is against big money when water is involved! Quote
monkeyman3dee Posted October 21, 2015 Posted October 21, 2015 I wonder if hypothetically the fisherman rebelled against this legislature what would happen. Thousands of sportmen who fish refuse to kill the poor defenseless iconic fish dot dot dots Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted October 21, 2015 Super User Posted October 21, 2015 Think about how hard they have tried to destroy the snakehead populations, silver and bighead carp, as well as grass carp. A small body of water....yes, but all waterways draining into the delta is an imposible feat. There isn't any way to remove an entire ecosystem that is thriving let alone a fish that migrates in and out of the ocean. The cost alone will be in the BILLIONS and fail. There isn't any money for it. They can try but they will fail as I know I will not follow that rule when I fish up there, let alone being able to remove fish from hundreds if not thousands of miles of canals, rivers, streams, and bassins. Yep California law makers officailly have their heads up their A$$. Trying to restore the delta to it's original fauna is an impossible task. Quote
Super User F14A-B Posted October 22, 2015 Super User Posted October 22, 2015 This is unfortunate & unbelievable, but not surprising. Quote
Slade House Posted October 22, 2015 Posted October 22, 2015 Calm down it hasn't passed senate yet , it has a 3% chance of being enacted so not to worry 1 Quote

The S1894 passed the state Senate last Friday and sent to the U.S. Senate, then House for funding and it's tied to climate change. What makes you think any congressman will stand in the way of bill? Go to western bass and vote on the link if you are interested in saving the delta bass fishing.Tom Quote

Tom Bills don't go from state senate to US senate #1 . i also talked to Dad , there is no way this thing is gonna pass. who stands in its way ? I don't about 247 house republicans and 54 republican senators. the republican drought bill passed the house this summer. Dad's bio is below "Mike House is the Director of Hogan Lovells' legislative group. He is recognized as one of the top three legislative lawyers in Washington, D.C. by Chambers USA and is ranked No. 10 on Washingtonian magazine's list of "50 Top Lobbyists." Mike concentrates on legislative and regulatory matters before the U.S. Congress, White House, and various departments and independent agencies of the executive branch. He represents national and multinational corporations, trade associations, and coalitions. He also has significant experience in crisis management on complicated and controversial legislative issues before Congress. 2 Quote

Super User WRB Posted October 30, 2015 Super User Posted October 30, 2015 2 bills are being considered, both are similar. The House bill is HR 2898 and passed overwhelmingly This month, that is 1 nail in the coffin. The Senate bill is S 1894, passed committe and is up for vote in the Senate. Bills (laws) are proposed by both bodies of congress, the House funds the bill, the President signs or veto's bills. The House Replublicains approved HR 2898, the Senate bill is a Democratic version of the House bill, both bills should easily pass the Senate and be funded. Tom Quote
Super User NorcalBassin Posted November 2, 2015 Super User Posted November 2, 2015 Yep, sounds about right. Just like background checks for ammo Gavin Newsom wants to push through. Born and raised in CA and still love it here, but life for the outdoorsman in CA continues to get more and more limited for "reasons" that do not make a whole lot of sense. Quote
