Kbral87 Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 My buddy and I decided to go to lake Mackenzie here in Texas since we were both off. I have never been to this particular lake before but my buddy has caught some nice black and hybrid bass. He fishes mainly soft plastics, baby brush hogs, and a variety of spoons. While I am a big crankbait and jig guy, we're not the greatest of anglers but we can deff catch fish. We had a real tough time even locating any bait fish, it wasn't until a few hours of nothingness that I was finally able to spot some crawfish out by a rock structure. He went to his brush hogs while I tied on a football jig with a zman turbo craw trailer, even then we only ended up with 2 fish a piece. None of them being over 1lb. So here I am sunburned and disappointed on how today turned out, on the plus side I did get to see some hawks pull out some decently sized fish out of the lake, at least someone got some good fish today. Super User scaleface Posted October 13, 2015 Super User Posted October 13, 2015 You need to get some of those lures that work every time . I see them posted quite often . 3 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted October 13, 2015 Global Moderator Posted October 13, 2015 Late summer/early fall is a tough transitional period that sees the fish really scatter out and become very difficult to pattern. We're getting past that point and more into the fall here and the fishing has improved but still hasn't hit the full swing we'll see in the next couple weeks. I imagine in your area you're really in the first period I mentioned though, which in that case, you really shouldn't feel too bad about it. 2 Quote

bassinhole Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Look on the bright side. A bad day fishing still beats a good day working... 1 Quote
d-camarena Posted October 17, 2015 Posted October 17, 2015 Its been the same for me, my only way of catching fish the last few days has been topwater Quote
Kbral87 Posted October 18, 2015 Author Posted October 18, 2015 I'm sure the weather being all over the place played a big role. It will be in the high 80's one day then rainy and in the 50's the next. Plus everyone I've talked to about that lake says it's tough fishing. Quote

Super User Bankbeater Posted October 19, 2015 Super User Posted October 19, 2015 It has been the same around here. Since the weather is cooling down, a cold front coming through the area just kills fishing all together. Quote
