Ive been looking at a reel to buy in the $200-$300 range that incorperates power and a light weight build. So far ive decided on a chronarch ci4+ or a revo premier. There gonna serve as a jig fishing reel and be paired with a 7'1" heavy powell max 3d. I cant make up my mind and i need some help deciding. What would you choose? Are there any other reels you would recommend?

Thanks,

Mass Bassin'

I've used both the Premier and the STX and I think the only difference is the carbon fiber handle, so you could save some cash and get the STX instead.

The Premier uses the IVCB centrifugal brakes while the STX uses the dual magnetic/centrifugal brakes

I'd recommend the JDM Shimano 13 Metanium XG. They can be had for under $300. Japan Lure Shop is where I've bought all my jdm reels

I have used aa gen 3 premier and also a ci4 chronarch, both the reels are solid, but I like the system on the premier, its easier to tune than the ci4 just for the fact that I don't have to open the sideplate to adjust the 4 pins, but adjust it externally, and with the ci4 I usually leave it on with just pins and set the outside on 1, the premier is more comfortable go palm then the ci4 not saying the ci4 isn't good, also the thumb bar on the ci4 is so smooth and also the retrieve on the ci4 is smoother than the premier plus I sometimes have issue on the premier with its thumb bar, its kind of hard to press it, but overall it doesn't bother me, so its like choosing vanilla flavor and chocolate flavor ice cream, so go out and try it and choose.

I have fished the tournament pro quite a bit and have zero complaints.  As small as a chronarch 50e.  Some days I wish all my reels were lews.  Other days its shimano.  Easy way to pick is flip a coin.

I'm actually going to throw out on the table the lews tournament pro, it's a workhorse reel that weighs 6.7oz. I have mainly Shimanos, but to name the ci4 chronarch here I'd say the tourney pro falls into the similar specs far as size, grip/palm, and weight. The difference is the ci4 feels like a more solid reel like tighter tolerances, smoother feel. Pretty basic when you buy a citica or higher up model. But if you don't real need the complete refinement feel, the tournament pro for much less is the ticket.

I've also seen lews came out with a new redesigned tourney pro that weighs 6.2oz, it's still retail at $199 but the older model could be found for $130 if you looked around.

I've handled Teams/Pros/Revos/Premiers and have to say many of them feel the same when it came to smoothness.

Thank you, i actually had my eye on the lews turnament pro but i wrote team pro down earlyer for some reason. My buddy has the old turnament pro and i really like it, but i was looking at the new modle, and the magnesium one they added that ways like 5.3oz if im not misaken.

Save some money and get the Team Lite if you go Lews. This reel bombs lures a long way and 5.7 oz. Tiny like a Shimano 50 to boot.

My recommendation would be the new *** ***, however I would wait for the next Tackle Warehouse sale, *** makes the best reels for a good price IMO.

I looked at the *** *** and really liked it, i heard its made really well, and no complaints, but i didnt know if it had anything that makes it shine above the rest. The chronarch ci4+ has xship and the lews turnament pro has an amazing reputation. But i will definately look closer at it. The trick shop by *** is a cool factor too.

They don't get a lot of press on here but the EXO from Quantum is a fantastic reel.

As far as low profile bass reels many companies outsource the manufacturing of their reels to third party manufactures so its mostly a marketing game with many of the reels having interchangeable parts.  With that said it doesn't make a reel better if its manufactured "in-house",  a good design works regardless of who makes it.   With that said I still favor Shimano and Daiwa offerings over most other reel manufactures, other than a few models Quantum and Abu Garcia offer.

Click on the websites below and notice the similarities of X domestic market reels compared to the foreign manufactures.

http://www.doyofishing.co.kr/main/index(BPS, and other manufactures use them for OEM offerings)

http://www.banaxfishing.co.nz/banax_baitcasting_02.htm(Korean manufacturer, if I am not mistaken they build Fishing 13 reels)

In the end its all a marketing game for the most part so its laughable when someone says that X reel is better than X brand reel when most likely the reels share the same platform just have different cosmetics. Also, what works for me may not be the best choice for others.
