illinifan4152 Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Has anyone used the new St Croix Mojo Rods with the upgraded SCIII opposed to the previous SCII? I would really like to hear a review. Just from holding them in store they look and feel good. Lighter than the previous model. Interested in others thoughts. Quote
cbass12 Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 I've got two on the way that I'm getting in exchange for a couple Rage rods that had messed up reel seats, 7'1" MH/F and 7'6" MH/MF. Hoping to get them today. As long as I get them by Friday I'll be able to put them to the test on Saturday. I'll post a review as soon as I do. Quote
cbass12 Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Just out of curiosity, did you handle one of the 6'10" ML/XF spinning rods? 2 Quote
illinifan4152 Posted October 12, 2015 Author Posted October 12, 2015 No. The two I held was the 6'8 MXF casting and 7' MF casting. What sparked my interest is that I already own a 6'8 MXF in an Avid X and the Mojo was oddly very similar feel. Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted October 12, 2015 Super User Posted October 12, 2015 I have the 6' 10" ML/XF that I use for casting dropshots and I love it, great rod for a good price. Quote
E. Guido Soda Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 I got the Mojo Bass Glass M / M 6'10" on Friday and fished it Saturday and Sunday. Wow - love it. It was between that and the Loomis E6X crankbait road, but there is simply no comparison - the Loomis is closer to a ML than a M. The MBG is a perfect medium, and $50 less - it was a no-brainer for me. And I'm extremely pleased. I fished it with a Revo SX Gen3 6.4:1, and H2O Xpress jointed square bills. I could feel every tick, every stump, grass, etc. The leaves are starting to fall around here and I was picking up quite a few of them, and you could tell immediately when you snagged one, no matter how small - it just went dead on you. Conversely, you could tell immediately when you had a strike. I caught probably 15 small-ish spots this weeklend, loading the road up a few times; I probably only lost three...not sure if it was from setting the hook too hard or what (user error is not out of the question), but I am supremely impressed with this rig, especially for the money. The blanks should be pretty close to the same, if not the same now that the Mojo uses SC3. Quote
Ginosocalbass Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 The blanks are the same as the rage blanks now. As per my local rep. Quote
EvanT123 Posted October 13, 2015 Posted October 13, 2015 Sc3 is my favorite blank to build on. I have to say with the price of these rods it almost makes building your own rods pointless. These are going to be a steal. Considering guides, cork, handle, and the time it takes to build a rod; it's amazing they can offer these rods at this price point. I guess it goes to show the power of economies of scale. I will definetly pick one up during a sale. 2 Quote

Super User WIGuide Posted October 14, 2015 Super User Posted October 14, 2015 lol haha must have missed that comment, oh well you know what they say...great minds think alike 1 Quote
cbass12 Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 Got them last night. They feel VERY nice. Balanced and lightweight, compared it to my Rage and it feels lighter. Although the rage in the same size and power was 5.1 and St Croix's site says the new Mojo is 4.2, so it would make sense that if feels lighter. Quote
THE_Vue's Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 I really want to try the fly rods in the mojo series. What kind of guides are on the Mojo's? Quote
chadmack282 Posted October 16, 2015 Posted October 16, 2015 Dam now I have to buy a couple of these new rods!! Quote
kolton Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 Anyone got one of these rods yet? I'm still waiting on Cabelas or Dick's to start carrying the new rods so I can get my hands on one. Quote

kolton Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 cbass12, which rod did you get? I was wondering if they were less tip heavy. Quote
Basswhippa Posted October 28, 2015 Posted October 28, 2015 I got my hands on these at BPS. This is going to be a very robust and hyper competitive rod in the slightly over $100 category. I predict the St. Croix Mojo yo be a grand slam home run. Quote
illinifan4152 Posted October 29, 2015 Author Posted October 29, 2015 I have to agree they do feel awesome! Quote
hatrix Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 All this talk has me interested in checking one of these out. At the very least handling one in store just to see how they feel. I was not a fan at all of the old mojo bass rods and there were many far superior rods oh could buy and for less. Quote
cottny27 Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 I got rid of my old Mojo rod because it was so tip heavy. I did like the finish on it and the cork seemed quality for $100. Of course, a buddy of mine picked mine up from the factory in WI for $20. It was a 7' crankbait model with a broken tip that they replaced. When I got it it was about 6'9". Quote
Super User iabass8 Posted October 29, 2015 Super User Posted October 29, 2015 Is the mojo a splt grip avid Or.... Is the avid now a full grip mojo?? Whoa... Mind......BLOWN 1 Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted October 29, 2015 Super User Posted October 29, 2015 Is the mojo a splt grip avid Or.... Is the avid now a full grip mojo?? Whoa... Mind......BLOWN The Mojo is built on the same blank as the Avid, but has slightly cheaper components and is made in Mexico. A split grip Avid is an Avid X Quote
