Super User the reel ess Posted October 12, 2015 Super User Posted October 12, 2015 I've never caught a smallie. I know my options are somewhat limited, living in the piedmont and near the midlands of SC. What are my best options? I kayak fish so small waters is really no problem unless they're too difficult to reach. Thanks, Rob Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted October 12, 2015 Super User Posted October 12, 2015 i think jocassee is your best bet. pretty sure that's where the SC smallmouth record was caught. 1 Quote

Unfortunately, it's as far as you can get in this state from me and I think the fish there tend to be very deep a lot of the year. I'm thinking more river. Quote
Super User buzzed bait Posted October 12, 2015 Super User Posted October 12, 2015 i've heard of smallies in the broad river as well. is that maybe closer to you? 1 Quote

Steveo-1969 Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 I have nothing to add to the whereabouts of smallmouth in SC. But yesterday as I was unhooking my first local LARGEmouth of the year (excluding vacation) I thought about how lucky I am to fish in a river full of smallmouth. I hope you find some!! 1 Quote

There might be some around the confluence of the Broad R and Lower Saluda R in Columbia. But with the flooding and the canal reconstruction going on, that's probably out of the question for a while.
