I Thought Berkley Fireline Was Good Stuff...

Until I spooled my spinning reel with 20# PowerPro. It easily outcasts Fireline by 20% with a weightless Trick Worm! Good limp line right off the spool. No black, sticky coating like Fireline has. Very good stuff. I'll switch my other spinning reel over before the next trip.

I really dig 15, 20 & 30 power pro for weightless plastics.

"IT IS",,,, yes power pro is smoother handling, "BUT" keep the power pro away from wood rocks and structure... it won't take it, fireline was what I used for years because it is the toughest NON-BRAID out there. I also used  the Crystal and no bleed!! 

 

Like I said fireline is not a braid, it can be felt thru the guides also, but for years I tried everything out there, and until Sufix introduced 832 their was no braid that would hold up to the structure I usually fish in, which is mostly river systems and big reserviours. So I went with fused Fireline. Today every outfit I own from panfish to Salmon is spooled with 832 Sufix,,, it will take the abrasion and handle as good as any braid, and as small diameter for # test than most. But have proven power pro won't match either if you fish around rocks wood and structure,,,,,

Im still using Flouro most the time,Thinking about try braid but not crazt about the extra knots.Might try some Power pro again and see what happens.

I tie braid directly to the bait. But water's not very clear here. Lately it's downright stained after a lot of rain. I will say the PowerPro green was less visible in water than the Fireline smoke. The black color eventually wears off the Fireline and it looks kinda grey. Still, I was catching fish with it.

Where I fish is mostly weedy. When I fish around standing timber in one place, I use mono and retie when necessary.

i really like power pro myself.  also have some 832 which i like, but haven't used enough to offer a good opinion yet.  i've tried some other braids (trilene, spiderwire, etc.) and it's not that i didn't like them, they're just sub par compared to the power pro.  

i really hate that wax feel coating that some lines seem to have on them (power pro super slick kinda feels like this to me)

I have 20 lb. Power Pro on one of my spinning reels, too.  It works well.   BUT... I do like the 4 lb. Fireline on my ultralight outfit (I think the actual breaking strength is WAY over 4 pounds, though).

 

I love regular, old, original Power Pro braid.  I have 30 lb. and 40 lb. on most of my casting outfits.

I still like and use Fireline for certain situations.  Definitely not as limp as Power Pro though.
