Yesterday I was browsing TW when I saw a product called the "finger saver": it's basically a metal ring with a loop of rubber, used to cinch knots. It looked great, except it costed a whopping $9. Today, I was looking at a plastic water bottle and realized that the hard plastic just below the cap created the same exact shape as the "finger saver". I cut out the hard part and used a bit of electrical tape to provide friction, and it's perfect for cinching knots tight without cutting your fingers. Just wanted to share this idea.

I can't quite visualize how this is supposed to work?

This is the part of the waterbottle I was talking about.

Good stuff, and timely...I keep a couple pair of leather gloves in the boat for this...and they are never where I left them. :wink2:

...so today I skipped them when tying a leader on...and sliced the $%^& outta my finger.  I've always got a bunch of water bottles in the boat, this will work great.

I carry a flashlight every day for my job (Streamlight 2AAA). It's become such a routine that I have it, my Leatherman, and a folding knife on me every day, even when fishing. The cylindrical shape of the flashlight makes it great to pull snags out!

When I snag a bait and it takes me more than a couple of minutes to de-snag, I find that wrapping the line a few times around the boat cleat and backing off with the trolling motor works every time.

Same here. Just wondering what kind of knot these people are tying that they're cutting themselves trying to cinch it down...

Pulling snags = 3/4" dia wood dowel 5" long with a grove around the middle.  Wrap and pull, even if it is braid.  Keep it in my pocket.

Cut my fingers a lot just tying a cinch knot especially when my hands are dried out. I'm surprised that people say they have never done this. Everyone I fish with / around has done this.

Thinner diameter and braids

I use both and still haven't done it, I must just have thick skin. Only time I've ever been cut by line is from pulling when I'm hung up.

I've cut through callouses, but not enough to draw blood.

Pulling snags, I just pick up a convenient 1/2 branch and use that.

I was hoping this was a thumb saver. Lip grabbing all these bass are thumb feels like sandpaper.
