Looking for a good spinning reel $200+ for either a megabass orochi xx or possibly a new phenix k2. Normally I'm a shimano guy (all my current reels are shimano) but I've been looking around and have heard good things about the daiwa certate: http://japantackle.com/spinning-reels/daiwa/standard-models/daiwa-2013certate.html and am not opposed to giving one a shot. Trying to decide between this and the new stradic. Would appreciate reviews from people who have used either or have other reccomendations in the $200-$400 price range. thanks

Take your pick, IMO.

Both are fantastic reels. I've got two Stradic FI

reels that I love, but I have been very impressed

with Daiwa's build - bought a Lexa 2000SH a

few years back, solid, smooth reel.

Put my hands on the higher end reels in-store

from Diawa. Honestly would be an either/or for

me.

Probably would go Shimano though, if only for

a higher gear ratio.

Certate!! I've haven't fished the new stradic but I have fished the new twin power which is an upgraded version of the new stradic. I would pick the certate over the twin power any day! You won't be disappointed in the certate, awesome reels.

You can get the certates in higher gear ratios.

If you do decide on the stradic fk check one out in person first. The first thing I noticed was the graphite section in the top of the spool. Not saying it's a problem but it just screams cheap!

A Stradic CI4+. Frankly it is just that good or a reel for the price. If you venture to higher price reels it would be the Certate and then the Stella in that order.

+ one on a Stradic ci4+ and throw in a carbontex drag.

I definitely think the ci4+ would look good with the k2, the only reason I didn't mention it is because of price. I can get the fk for $150 at japan lure shop but the ci4+ is $200-$220 everywhere I look. Anyone know where to get one cheaper?

I've got a Sustain, and it's the smoothest reel I've ever owned. Simply wonderful.

CI4+ is a very nice reel, I don't see a urgency to spend more on a reel past the CI4 with the price point and quality/specs.

Ci4+ hard to beat, I have the FG Sustain and the Ci4+ both, along with a few Stradic FJ's,, the FJ's are very sweet and hard to beat for the money... I had a few Ci4's and hated em not near as smooth as the FJ's or FI stradic's. the new Ci4+ changed that all, and the rapid fire drag, Xship and on and on I think the new Stradic Ci4+ is a steel and every bit as sweet a reel as the Sustain!!

If you want more real than the Ci4+,,, I think you have to buy a Stella or you're just spending more money and getting nothing more for it,,,,JMO

Good choice, I'm sure you will be happy with it. Let us know after you run it through it's paces,,,,, :Victory:

That would be about $212.00 and a steel, from a good seller,,, can't go wrong.

I'm pretty set on a ci4+ at this point, but I think a sustain would be awesome. Is this a good deal? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Shimano-Sustain-2500FG-Spinning-Fishing-Reel-BRAND-NEW-at-Ottos-Tackle-World-/281750562871?hash=item4199a46837

Anyone bought from Australia before? Seems like a good price even with $40 shipping...

The sustain is just an overpriced stradic fj. Not worth it in my opinion. If you remove the handle and rotor from both reels they are identical. I've owned both and actually prefer the stradic over the sustain.

Just throwing this out there - Rarenium. I was looking at the stradic and didn't like the color scheme (yes it matters to me) and went with the Rarenium had it all season and other than one issue the first time out in 28 degree weather, it has been awesome!

The Sustain is a huge difference over the FJ,, different drag, different materials, different bearing count, and a smoother reel, not to mention lighter,  now the Ci4+ is pretty close but the FJ, is a pretty big step down!! the only thing they have in common is the name Shimano, and the same size in each holds the same line!!!

Hey Joe. I am a dyed in the wool shimano guy but I have five different certate models. You can not buy a better spinning reel for the money. The certate is a poor mans Stella st basically half the price. Buy JDM at the current yen versus dollar prices. I own three different stradic models for the record.

Wrong. The extra bearings are in the knob and one under the spool. If you remove the rotor and handle they are IDENTICAL REELS! The sustain is not smoother. You are paying for the ci4 rotor, aluminum drag knob and a handle with bearings in the knob. The drag material is the same the difference is the bearing under the spool, Which is pointless for bass fishing.

I am sorry but yes the bearing and the rapid fire adjustment most will agree both are preferable drag enhancements,,,, but you could change them also with the rest of the items you want to remove from the subject and totally justify your comment. I fish them all and yes the smoother faster start up from the bearing mounted lighter carbon rotor is very noticeable unless you want to compare diferent sizes to make that point moot also,,,,,,, :rolleyes7:
