After tree stand sessions since Saturday, I have yet to see a deer. Son-in-law finally had a small buck come by him last night. Hopefully things start to pick up soon. Good luck to all you archers.

Are you trying to Rattle in Bucks?

My best whitetail hunts have always involved rattling.. If you haven't tried this, between now & the end of the month is Primetime..

I've been out a handful of times no long hour sessions quick pre and post work hunts. Last Friday I sat for bout 45 minutes before I got down because I was falling asleep I had just worked a 13 hour shift. Got down and decided to still hunt just slowly walking the woods. Came up on mama and fawn had the fawn at about 2 yards I coulda just jabbed her with my arrow and killed her and mama was at 15-20 yards. Just stood there and watched for about 10 minutes waiting for a shot on mom but every time mom gave me a shot baby was staring me down. Eventually the fawn poked it's head more into the grass and seen or smelt me and took off they both ran maybe 50 yards tails down and stopped and continued eating acorns.

Sunday same thing still huntin jumped up a young doe smoked her at 15 yards quartering away hit behind the last rib excited far shoulder she ran 10 yards and dropped. Not a big one but it's meat and nice tender meat at that. In the WMUs I hunt here it's does only unfortunately so no bucks till the 16th.

It is not a bad thing to shoot a mom wit fawn.  Not criticizing, as I am not a deer hunter, just asking.  I would think a fawn would have a much better change surviving to maturity if it had its mother, hence helping the deer population.

At this point they are fine on their own coyotes don't hunt them really unless other food sources are scarce and or they are wounded. To much work to take down a deer when a bunny and grasshoppers are plentiful still. Deer is a lot of meat for a coyote. Come hard winter they will target then more but even then it don't seem it. I do more coyote hunting then deer and it's not uncommon to call and have deer come to coyote howls or even see them in fields together.

Come gun season though them guys shoot everything hat moves doe fawn scrub buck monster buck it don't matter them guys are ruthless the if it's brown it's down crowd.

I shoot a smaller doe every year usually they are like veal but only better free range if you will.

Heard one thump passed my window the other night. There just starting to move. The does are usually following a monster buck. But no real action from the bottoms yet. We have spotted a very large bobcat. My large racoon is missing. U could have a predator problem. Our quotes are the size of female German Shepard. We usually have 30 turkeys in the field there scarce now. On the other hand all my fruit trees are bare.

We need a frost to get the rut going.

The monster buck is 275/300lbs with a b&c quality rack. I let him spread his genes/dna.

The turkeys showed up today. That's a good sign things are moving.

I went out last night checked my trail cam had 41 new pics in a matter of 4 days several small bucks tons of does all coming threw at 6-9am and 3-6 pm. I got there at 445pm seen the pics and time looked around and decided to move the camera to another crossing deeper in the property in hopes to get the big boys on camera. Took me maybe 20 minutes to get down the property set up the cam and get back to where I just removed it from. As I'm making my way in I kicked 3 deer out that were standing around my stool I left there to sit on. Should of just stayed put and moved the camera later. Tried this morning in monsoon rains and winds packed up when it really started coming down in buckets. First time hunting that block and not seeing a deer.

Turkeys came through again this afternoon. The deer here should be around. Almost time to setup the molasses coated corn feeder.

I've been getting reports of deer sparing and chasing. I do have a lot of buck movement though on camera all small bucks but they seem to be coming threw within 10-30min after the does. I just redneck engineered my climber to get off the ground in my sweet spot. No straps to hold it together and carry it out with they rotted off so it's got some quickly weaved 550 cord braclet style straps now and some bungees and a ratchet strap to hold it all together. Might be a pain to get it all out in the woods at 6am but I'm ok with it.

Last evening my son-in-law ran into a different bear than the smaller one from earlier on. We're a bit anxious about running into one of them in the dark. I hate to make a bunch of noise getting to and from my stands. Kind of a conundrum, we have to consider. The up side is that the same evening, my grandson saw the biggest buck he's ever seen. Maybe things are taking an upswing. Good luck, all.

The four of us were heading up a mountain trail. With little flashlights. In the pitch black dark we had a BlackBear on our left side and a bobcat or mountain lion on our right. They were growling at each other. They followed us all the way up the mountain to the Apple orchards. When daylite came it was quiet. On the way out at lunchtime the bear followed us growling at us all the way out.

My brother was with us for the first time. Of course the tracks in the mud look bigger. He didn't come bear hunting the following year.

I was carrying a marlin 444s. It will blow a hole through 3/8" boiler plate steel. No need to worry.

Since I have a protection permit, I am able to now carry during archery season here in PA. I've had my .40 with me since the last encounter.

That's a good thing. I wish every state allowed a handgun when bow hunting. Since bow season over laps bear season we pair up so one has a gun. I got hung up in the very thick pines once it was crashing and thrashing going away. I didn't like a 5 to 8' shot with the 30-06. I carried the 444 in brush country ever since.

No feeling like being in the dark with a bear and cat at5am.

There just curious.

Went out Friday morning heard some bucks fighting off in the small triangle piece by my stand and some grunting in my piece o have my stands but didn't see a thing but squirrels. I tried some grunting and light rattling but nothing showed. I do have some fresh rubs and scrapes in the area though. Gonna go out in the morning and hopefully the afternoon as well but the kids have a birthday party to go to at 2 I'm hoping to duck out and head to the woods around 330 4.

I did stick this guy sense he wanted to sound like a deer all morning lol.

I shoot every day from mid August threw out the season even now with bow season upon us. I shot the other day in 30mph winds at 30 and 40 yards this was the results.

30yds

40yds and my poa was the center dot so I drifted 1-2" left with the wind at 40yds steadily blowing 30mph.

Practice practice practice I gotta get my lane mowed again so I can go back to shooting 80yards

Had to break out the chemical hand warmers last night. We had wind driven sleet and snow. I sure don't care much for the cold anymore. Still have yet to see a single deer from any tree stands. Maybe I should start road hunting..........lol.

I thought today would be perfect keep hearing guys say bucks are starting to fight and respond to grunts add in it was 34* out and had snow on the ground I was up and headed to the woods at 530am.

Got in stand and settled in had a deer come threw at 645 couldn't see what it was just the outline of a deer but considering for the last two weeks I have nothing but bucks on camera in that spot I'm confident it was a buck just not a big one as I have none on camera.

Morning wore on heard lots of ducks some geese seen some squirrels as usual didn't shoot any lol. Heard some turkey freaking out about 100 yards west of my position and season opened yesterday so I got ready to smoke a turkey with the bow only to have two of the biggest fox I have ever seen come running threw after the turkey I lip squeaked the male into 20 yards as the female hung up in the brush. Fox opens next Sunday though so free pass to them but better believe I'll have my foxpro caller next Sunday with me fox and coyote with a bow would be cooler then a deer to me.

Seen and heard a barred owl as well it kept the squirrels hidden thankfully. Then the turkeys started sounding off again this time in the corn and I caught a coyote sneaking threw behind me just saw his bottom half and what little bit of tail hanging down below the brush. Tried squeaking him in but wasn't having it kept circling downwind to the turkeys.

Not a single deer though during shooting hours and I sat from 620-1045. Hope to make it out this evening but my best friend is having his daughters b day party and house warming party slash Halloween party but he's a big hunter also so he should understand when I duck out after a hour to hit the stand lol his fiancé not so much but that's his problem lol.
