Super User Catch and Grease Posted October 7, 2015 Super User Posted October 7, 2015 Who do you think is gonna take the game? I'm a cubs fan so you already know what I'm gonna say... This incredible season all comes down to this one game, make it or break it time! I'm soooo excited for this game, the cubs haven't been to the playoffs since 2008 and this team IMO is a lot better than the 08 team they just have a lot less experience as a whole... (My prediction 2-0 Cubs win) Quote
BassThumbAddict Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 I want the cubbies to win, but I also would like it better if they played a 3 game series. 3 Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted October 7, 2015 Super User Posted October 7, 2015 I am a fan of both teams, although I am a life-long Cardinals fan. Either team will test the Cards in the divisional series. I think a Cubs v Cardinals series would be great for both cities. Go Cubs! 1 Quote
Super User gardnerjigman Posted October 7, 2015 Super User Posted October 7, 2015 Cubs have gone farther than expected this year. Super young team. Next year they should be killer. They still have to work on their bats. They are pretty swing happy right now. (not that it's a bad thing all the time) The Pirates have worked their butt off and came out of nowhere this season. It's going to be a pitching duel tonight that I think will be decided by a walk off homer. Just depends which team connects. My Royals are in, and chomping at the bit to chew up the Astros Thursday! 1 Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted October 7, 2015 Author Super User Posted October 7, 2015 I'd prefer the royals beat the Astros, never cared much for the Astros... Quote
Super User tomustang Posted October 7, 2015 Super User Posted October 7, 2015 Cubs vs miami, Cubs take it. 1 Quote
BradGuenette Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 How bout them Blue Jays!! Been waiting 23 years for this to happen again, super excited for Thursday! 1 Quote
Super User Scott F Posted October 7, 2015 Super User Posted October 7, 2015 I don't follow baseball much but a one game series is crazy after a 162 game season. They should have a tie breaker like the team with the biggest run differential over the season advances. A one game playoff reduces the value of the (too) long season. 3 Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted October 8, 2015 Author Super User Posted October 8, 2015 I agree 100%, it should be a 3 game series, but the wild card game does add that "world series feel" to the first playoff games.... Quote

I agree that one game is a coin toss. I also agree with giving incentive to win the division, but I am not sure what we have is the best answer. The three best records (and maybe the best teams) in baseball being in the same division complicates things. I think there will be adjustments next year. Whether they are for the best remains to be seen. I'm still agrevated about lowering the mound and the designated hitter... Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted October 8, 2015 Super User Posted October 8, 2015 Way to go Cubs. Great game. See y'all Friday! 1 Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted October 8, 2015 Author Super User Posted October 8, 2015 Only the pirates would start some drama like that, drilling arietta was so uncalled for, but hey we won so they can suck on it! Hahaha WOOOO GO CUBBIES! R.I.P Pirates Gatorade Cooler.... You will be missed... Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted October 8, 2015 Super User Posted October 8, 2015 The reason the wild-card game is only 1 game is because that makes it more important to win your division. Arrieta is an absolute beast right now. I'm predicting Cubs, Jays with Toronto taking it all. Quote

Hahaha WOOOO GO CUBBIES! R.I.P Pirates Gatorade Cooler.... You will be missed... grab-2015-10-07-21h19m51s175.jpg I don't blame the Pirates for drilling Arieta. They hit him in the backside. He came up and in, hitting two Cubs. It was a measured response. He should have just taken the base and moved on. You can argue it wasn't intentional on Arieta's part. Not likely. Part of the game IMO. No harm, no foul. It was a tough way for a 97 game winner to end their season, and in a 5 or 7 game series the results might be different. Arieta's performance was incredible though and Chicago deserved the win. 1 Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted October 8, 2015 Author Super User Posted October 8, 2015 Are you serious? You really think areitta would try to take out batters in a one game playoff while ahead 4-0? If you do then you are just blind. He had two pitches get away from him and unfortunaly they hit the pirates, its baseball and it happens. It was accidental, nothing more, nothing less. Now the pirates drilling arieta 100% BS And clearly intentional. Sorry I misread your post I thought you were claiming arietta intentionally hit the pirates... And BTW any pitcher that hits another pitcher is a panzy ***** that should not be in the MLB. Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted October 8, 2015 Super User Posted October 8, 2015 C and G I don't care if Arietta hit anyone intentionally or not. After you drill the second guy you have crossed the line. I think hitting the pitcher who has done the hitting is exactly the right thing to do. Why should he be untouchable? Arietta should have taken the base and kept his mouth shut. His actions are what caused the situation and escalated it. Getting a key player hurt in a stupid fight could cost a championship. That would be a sorry end to the Cubs season. Just one more in a long line of failures. 1 Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted October 8, 2015 Author Super User Posted October 8, 2015 Arietta only really got a good hit on one pirate, the first one grazed the dudes fingers. You don't just go and try to injury an ace pitcher after he accidentally hit a guy in the shoulder while he is breaking records and having a historical baseball game its just down-right wrong, and let the umps handle it. Why should the pirates get to decide when arietta has crossed the line? When did they get that authority? And they try to punish him by intentionally causing him bodily harm that could have went very bad and maybe even put him in the hospital? That's just criminal. Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted October 8, 2015 Author Super User Posted October 8, 2015 And BTW arietta just exchanged words, it was the pirates that approached arietta and that punk rodrigues even threw a punch at Ross, They were absolutely the aggressors in that event. Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted October 8, 2015 Super User Posted October 8, 2015 Arietta was hit on the rear end. It was not a career ending shot. Up and in is a very different thing. I wonder how you would feel in Pittsburgh's place? It's all about perspective. Hitting a pitcher in the *"¥ who has already come up and in to two batters is criminal? Grow up cubby. Quote
Super User Catch and Grease Posted October 8, 2015 Author Super User Posted October 8, 2015 Lol okay, okay, not much reason to argue about this... Not gonna change anything. Quote
halochef Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 i do think watson hit arrieta to send a message about a SS who was taken in aug. out for the year....busted leg and torn mcl...Kang Quote
Super User gardnerjigman Posted October 8, 2015 Super User Posted October 8, 2015 Butt hurt.... Butt hurt everywhere!!!!! Tension was high... It was a big game for both teams... In the end everyone survived (except a poor defenseless Gatorade cooler) and the winners moved on. Playoff time boys! GO KC BLUE!!! 1 Quote
halochef Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 OBTW Cole choked pirates choked. shut out back to back wild card games. arrieta was great. 1 Quote
