Joe H. Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 I'm interested in that 7'1" medium light spinning. Anyone had a chance to try these out yet? Appreciate any insight on the production k2s. Haven't heard any reports yet.... Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted October 7, 2015 Super User Posted October 7, 2015 I have a custom built on the K2 blank. I can tell you there isn't a blank as light as these. They are incredibly sensitive. They do fish a bit lighter than you would think. Not as light as the Recon series but a touch lighter than the ratings you see on the rods. I haven't handled or fished a production K2 but the blanks are very good. Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted October 7, 2015 Super User Posted October 7, 2015 never fished one but have checked out the rods at my local tackle shop and really like them !! i'm gonna have a custom 7'6'' H/F blank built with spiraled micros , just saving up for it . Phenix is a great company with outstading products and outstanding customer service ... Quote

fisherrw Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 I'm interested in this rod as well. Has anyone actually used one of the production models? It'd be nice to know something about the reel seat/guides/handle material etc. Quote

Super User kickerfish1 Posted October 10, 2015 Super User Posted October 10, 2015 I'm about 4 hrs from pulling the trigger on a new k2... No one else out there with any more info on this rod? There are a small % of anglers that can afford $500 without a discount of some sort. I have not seen anyone talk about the production rods. I would wait for a 20-25% discount during the holiday season and buy then. Quote

I got a pretty good deal through a friend who knows a rep. 7'1" ml, $440 shipped, 20% off. Couldn't resist Quote
tappinbass Posted October 11, 2015 Posted October 11, 2015 Does anyone else agree that Phenix rods don't get the respect and amount of talk that they deserve? So much talk about omens (which I own) and the same other rods over and over! Seems like the Phenix rods are just not in these conversations enough? Why? Are there just not that many people that own them? I love Phenix rods and think that when the thread of best rod for xxx dollars comes up, they should be in there every time! 1 Quote

Phenix makes some great rods and that they sell blanks makes it extremely good for custom rod builders !!! i foresee only using their blanks for all my custom rods ( St.Croix blanks for my custom swimbait rod needs) Phenix makes some awesome rods and their customer service is excelllent !!! Are there just not that many people that own them? I love Phenix rods and think that when the thread of best rod for xxx dollars comes up, they should be in there every time! I am not really sure. They have pluses and minuses like a lot of companies. I had a Recon 714 but sold it. Currently I just have a custom K2 spinning rod. That custom k2 is easily one of the best rods I have ever used. As far as my opinion on the Recon and production rod series I feel they make a good rod. The tapers are a bit slower tend to have a bit more give in them. To me this makes them very versatile. However they are a bit underwhelming for bottom contact baits (not in feel but in power). If I was looking for a Phenix rod for jigs and such I would step up a power more to compensate. The Recon while light in weight, was a bit tip heavy for me. The hookeeper was also a joke as it broke within a week plus the placement was not very good IMO. The blank was outstanding for the price and the looks of the rod made it seem very JDM in that regard. The warranty and customer support were good too. I spoke to Vince Borges with Phenix for about 10 minutes to help pick a rod that would fit my needs. Phenix also offers some lighter powered rods that seem to appeal to the BFS guys. Quote
Hogsticker Posted October 12, 2015 Posted October 12, 2015 Love the blanks, but don't care for there build styles and characteristics much at all. I have a custom 683ml K2 and it's head and shoulders the lightest most sensitive rod I've ever held. 1 Quote
