Super User 00 mod Posted October 5, 2015 Super User Posted October 5, 2015 Thanks guys! Saw it and that is one BEAUT of a rod!! Reel seat looks fabulous. Is that a Cronarch Ci4 with Hawgtech handles? That is a Curado I with Hawgtech. I originally had a Metanium with Hawgtech on there, but just liked the Curado I a little better. Crazy how that little extra 1 oz makes that much of a difference sometimes! Jeff 3 Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted October 5, 2015 Super User Posted October 5, 2015 Nice write up. I've got a couple custom rods built on Batson blanks. However, they were purchased used so if a favorite, it is by accident. As it turns out the first one I bought is definitely one of my favorites even tho the second is built on a more expensive blank. Unfortunately I don't ever seem to think about having a custom rod built when looking for another to add to my stable. Probably because I don't spend the time on the water most do, and therefore don't notice the little things much. 2 Quote

Jeff An ounce isn't a lot of weight by itself but percentage wise it's significant. 1 Quote
WPCfishing Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 I read it earlier today. You sure did sum that up. Good blog.. 1 Quote

Delaware Valley Tackle Posted October 7, 2015 Posted October 7, 2015 Jeff makes a great case for Custom Rods. The only thing I'd add is that you don't have to know the answer to every component choice. The sheer number of optons is overwhelming to many people. A competent Rod Builder will be able and willing to walk you through the entire process. 2 Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted October 7, 2015 Super User Posted October 7, 2015 I like when people give me a little creative freedom. I think that element of not knowing exactly what's coming upon delivery makes it more exciting for the customer. Usually, its in the grips. They say "surprise me", and they usually are, unless I've been feeding them progress pics. 2 Quote

Super User South FLA Posted October 9, 2015 Super User Posted October 9, 2015 Nice, write up. I heard that the ALPS SS guides are a higher quality SS than Fuji brand and that SS guides can be bent back and forth without breaking more often than titanium guides, not sure if its true, but I may consider ALPS brand guides on my next saltwater rod build. So you never said what you did with those $400 plus jig rods...lol? Shoot me an Email! Like that real cork knobbed handle :-) 2 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted October 9, 2015 Posted October 9, 2015 Titanium is more resilient than SS and more resistant to corrosion. A better choice for saltwater apps. Alps and Fuji are both quality products. Use either with confidence. 1 Quote

Most people are more familiar with the Fuji name, so people tend to lean towards them. WPCfishing Posted October 10, 2015 Posted October 10, 2015 I'm interested in knowing more about Kigan guides.. Opinions would be appreciated? Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted October 10, 2015 Super User Posted October 10, 2015 my choice for guides are American Tackle Artus Heavy Duty Micro guides , excellent rings , i love the thick neck on them as they are very durable . Quote
