I had a tough tourney recently.  I think, listening from others who did okay, ripping the bait from grass and getting a reaction strike was the key.  I usually use a 1/4 oz. spinnerbait with 1 willow-leaf blade tied on with braid plus FC leader, but it only got a few bites during my tough tourney.  I RARELY use a lipless crank, but I'm thinkin' I should have.  Any other suggestions for this technique of ripping it from grass?  Thanks.

All the pros on my bass pros video say you have to rip bait out of weeds and impinge on objects to gets the bite.

Sorry if this comes off sounding like a jerk. I'm not meaning it to, but are you new to fishing? This time of year depending on your location some fish are into the fall transition already. Lipless cranks can be a good producer. It's a common and productive technique.

All I'm asking is for some different baits that you prefer when you're rippin a bait out of the grass to get a reaction bite. I mentioned what I use and I also mentioned a lipless crank. I'm not looking for what the bass on your home lake are doing at this time.

If you say "I'm not meaning to sound like a jerk", you sound like a jerk.

Lol, chill out buddy. To answer your question, chatterbaits and lipless cranks are my favorites for ripping through grass. Other reaction baits such as soft swimbaits, spinnerbaits, and swim jigs are great around grass but are a bit difficult to "rip."

sorry man. But I take offense to the " are you new to fishing " comment.

When they have lockjaw and the flipping bite is off - ripping a bait off the outside edge is a presentation worth using. Chatter bait and spinnerbait (along with the swim jig) are given, but I was curious as to what others use

Thanks for your input.

Why would you take offense to that?  It's a legitimate question, especially the way your post was worded.

At any rate...There are several good lipless baits to fish in grass.  My favorites are the Red Eye Shad, Lucky Craft RTO, Lucky Craft LV500 and the XCalibur XR 50, (which is now called the Booyah One Knocker.)

You worded your post like it's a technique that you've never heard of, or use. You also say that you rarely use a lipless crank. Thus the reason for my question. Then you go on to say in another post that it's a presentation worth using. You also say chatterbait, spinnerbait, and swim jigs are a given. So are lipless cranks and squarebills for ripping out of grass. Sorry, but it makes you sound like you're new to fishing. I didn't say anything about my home lake. I said depending on your location. Obviously if someone is in Florida their waters are different from Pa/Md/Wv. Not all fish transition at the same time either. Just like when they spawn. The jerkbait bite is hot on my lake. ;)

I use the braid to flouo combo the rip lipless cranks out of the weeds. It's a great fall technique. I have learned that a rod with a good back bone works better for ripping baits out of weeds for a reaction strike.

Along with a trap, I like to rip a squarebill or tick a bladed jig above the grass. A hollow belly swimbait can be good too.

Just because I hardly use a lipless crank, doesn't mean I'm new to fishing. I must have worded it wrong, then. Anyways, thanks for the input. I heard duo realis has a nice lipless crank that's thinner on the top - comes through grass easier. Braid is a given. I hesitate using braid with a crank, for fear of ripping it out of the fishes mouth on hook set, but I've heard of people using it. Might be time to give it a try. Thanks.

I'll defend Rippin-lips because the post did read as if you never really heard of doing that before and you usually us the same 1/4oz spinnerbait with a single willow leaf blade. Most will use whatever conditions call for and if I'm not getting bit I'll try a different approach, so yeah, your post did sound as if you are new to fishing which isn't a bad thing as we all had to be new to it at some point, there is no shame in being new to the sport. Now to answer your question, I like ripping square bills out of grass as well as lipless cranks and if the grass is close to the surface a floating style jerkbait is another good bait. I'm a spinnerbait fanatic and I fish them in grass and rip it through but I find they don't get the same amount of reation strikes that a treble hook bait gets because it never really gets slowed down like by the grass like a crank does.

I bought a bunch of the Duo Realis lipless baits but I haven't really had a good chance to use them yet.  I have high hopes for them though.
