Hey guys,

Im starting to do some shore fishing at night. Do you think the fish will see my light? or care for it? The question is: will a turned on flashlight affect my fishing?

If you are using a small flash light or head lamp, as long as you don't shine it directly where you are fishing I do not believe the fish will be affected.  If your're talking about a bright lantern or spot light - maybe.

However, without a red lens on a head lamp or flash light, you'll be blinding yourself.  Read up on "Night Vision".

You'd be surprised how well you can see without the use of a light once your eyes adjust to the darkness.

It take several minutes (Usually 20-30 minutes) to fully adjust and it's essentially wiped out every time you subject yourself to white light.  It comes back but it does take several minutes again.

A red lense really helps here.  I fish quite a bit at night and Clearly Safety Always Comes First, but I use a head lamp sparingly - to re-tie, de-hook and land fish when I need to.

Well, the primary function of my light is what you said...knots and landing fish...BUT... i fish in places that are very near (if not in the middle of) urban areas so, with this thing of people finding bodies in ponds the light helps me see what is going on around me.

Perhaps your flash light needs an attachment.

One of my lights came with a sweet CZ

I use locking ball bearing snap swivels.

I use a AA or AAA battery flashlight. I put my tackle box lid to block the light from the water.

I don't want to see what's making noise on land near me.lol

I do a lot of walleye fishing from shore this time of year... the answer to your question is yes; negatively.  Turn your back to the water when you need to shine light on work.

I use a 5 LED light that clips to my ball cap, since I'm behind the light it has minimal effect on night vision, it's usually back to normal in under a minute.

headlamp with a red lens and you will be fine.  Like A-Jay said, your eyes will adjust if you let them.  At night i always try to rig up as many different rods as i can to minimize having to retie but i also fish from a kayak.
