I woke up at 3am with vomiting and diarrhea and I had to work 7-3 that day so I called my boss around 7 (Because I couldn't get a hold of her any earlier) and when I told her I was vomiting and needed to sit today out she instantly acted PO'ed like I was lying and tried telling me I needed to still come in for my second shift from 11:30 to 3. Like really? I know I have only worked there for a month but I've never been even a minute late or done anything that would make me look lazy or like I don't want to be there? And right before she hangs up on me she says "You just don't wanna work *hangs up*" even though I've been working like 30-35 hours a week and have told them that I would prefer to open in the mornings if I could...

Now I'm just nervous what's gonna happen when I come in tomorrow, I'm probably gonna be chewed out for something I couldn't prevent. Oh well

Your dealing with life in the real world these days..so many people take advantage of the system that when someone is telling the truth, it's hard to believe. Speak with her and be honest..she will most likely understand.

To be honest, if I had only been on that job for a month, I would have shown up sick and let the boss send me home (or not).

Send her a really nice picture to prove you're not lying.  Simple as that.  She'll know better than to doubt you next time too. :MSN-Emoticon-sick-146:  :photography-044::sleep-043:

I know how ya feel

I had food poisoning one day and diarhea and vomiting essentially felt like I was gonna die with NO energy so I know how ya feel.

I too went to my boss told her slumped on the chair that I was going home (wasnt even sure I was gonna make it home thats how bad I felt)

She asked if I could stay awhile and give her a status report

LOL .. I knew this was not a job I wanted to keep after that

In your situation, if you really want to keep that job, show up with a doctor's slip.. that should shut her up and give it to the HR dept or her boss as well..

but really that is not a kind of a person you need to work for..

That's what I would have done as well. Although I am not too sure that's the decision I would of made in my younger years.

Younger years...   you make a very good point.  I'm not too sure I would have done it then, either.  It's easy to forget how our values may have been a little bit different when we were younger!

I'm with the go to work and get sent home thought. That's me though I had perfect attendance in school and college and have only missed three days of work in the last 10 years 2 of them three were the birth of my children and I've never been late on top of that as well. I usually fight it if try sending me home.

I wouldn't worry to much about it though honestly I'm sure you will be fine at work.

I too would be with the go til they kick you out crowd, BUT since it a food establishment.  Best not go, if your boss is like that, apply at Bass Pro.

Fast food is a rough gig. I've worked as a contractor in restaurants for many years. Managers are more than likely working 6 days a week 48-60hours if they are lucky. They make an average salary with a bonus structure, and will only make "good" money if they hit their "numbers". They tend to run lean on labor to begin with and you called in which means she either needs to work your job as well as run the store or find someone to work your shift. You may not have been the only one who called in either. I'm not defending her behavior but you need to see it from her side. I hope your feeling better, and you made a good decision to stay home. It wouldn't be right to get others sick.

In our town the workers at Wendys are career people.  Same people have been there as long as I can remember.  Now they want $15 an hour and benefits because they cannot survive on their wages.

If I were you I would be the best employee in the place, but I would keep an eye out for a better job.

Don't let her get to you, she's probably just frustrated, and if she does chew you out just take it with a grain of salt. Know your company policy and state laws too, I know where I work they can't ask for documentation for sick days unless you call out 3 days in a row. If you know what you're talking about she can't intimidate/bully you when you go back

Find someone else on really short notice.

Imagine if C&G had taken it upon himself to find one of his new friends to cover for him, before he called in to her.  This is a practice I always encouraged when I managed a bar.  While it didn't always make me happy that someone was not making their shifts, at least I wasn't stuck doing double duty.

My friend, if I were you after calling and her getting ticked I would have shown to work and just to puke on the restaurant to show her I wasn´t kidding.

That sure would teach her a lesson.  :wall3:

I would have but with it being a food service place that probably isn't nice for the customers... Haha, I didn't get chewed out at all, just a normal day at work!

She probably believed you, but believing you doesn't serve the customers or post her bills. Next time maybe offer to find someone to cover your shift. At least you were healthy enough the same day to complain about it.

She literally said she didn't believe me during the phone call and its hard to find someone to work for you at 3am while your sick as hell not to mentioned I have none of the other people who are trained to do my jobs phone number, and its not hard to move your finger while your sick.

EDIT: Actually now that I think about it there is one person I could have called that usually works night shift.

Take it as a learning experience. Doodoo occurs. You will be sick in your working life; if you can be prepared to cover your shift if you can't be there you will be a tremendous asset to your now and future boss(es).

That's it? She doesn't believe you? So what.. Consider the source & don't stress about it. That's life & believe me... It will only become more complex with passing time. Hold your head high, do your duty & pick your battles.. That issue isn't worth anymore consideration. People get ill, people get injured. That's just the way it is..

Good luck C&G

You're possibly too young to remember the scene in Animal House where Dean Wormer is chewing out Dorfman (aka "flounder") (who has a major hangover) and says, "Well, out with it!" And flounder pukes on him. I say you puke on her.

Show up and puke on her shoes. Let her see you. If it's food service she won't keep you long.
