bhoff Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Im looking into getting a JDM rod and was wondering where a good place to buy one is. I figured that buying them directly may be very expensive because of shipping costs and wanted to know if there were any places in the US that sold JDM rods for a reasonable price. Quote
Super User Raul Posted October 2, 2015 Super User Posted October 2, 2015 If you are after Megabass rods all you have to do is log in to www.megabassusa.com and find their authorized dealers, they have a list of like 20 all in the USA. Quote
WPCfishing Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 I just took a look at the rod line up for maybe the 2nd time. I'm impressed with all of them but the Orchi XX is in my wheel house. Full cork grip! Hmmmm.......................... You all have me thinking. Quote
poisonokie Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Yeah, you can find Megabass, major craft, gan craft, and others fairly easily. Some are almost impossible, though. I'd love to get my hands on a jdm steez or Daiwa black label plus, but short of booking a flight to Tokyo it doesn't look like I will. Quote
WPCfishing Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 So I visit Tackle Traps web site... I'm looking at the Perfect Pitch rod.. I call to talk with Rep. While I'm on the phone I get a pop up on the website. They have deals on G Loomis rods. My curiosity was over with for now. I bought a MBR844C. It should be here Tuesday. Quote

Brian at Tackle Trap was a pleasure to deal with. Give him a call. Quote
thehooligan Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 Definitely tackle trap for megabass rods. Gary is the best. When it comes to Jackall and evergreen, you have to do alot of research... 1 Quote
bhoff Posted October 3, 2015 Author Posted October 3, 2015 What about MajorCraft ,is there any seller here in the US for them? I was looking at the Nanoace at TW, does anyone have any experience with that rod here? 1 Quote
John G Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 If you limit yourself to buying only JDM rods that are sold in the U.S., you are extremely limiting your choices. My experience in buying JDM rods is that the two JDM rods that I have bought from overseas, I did not think that shipping was overly high. 1 Quote

Yep, looking for JDM from US only retailers will severely limit your choices. I just ordered a rod from Japan and the shipping was only 65$ compared to almost $100 a few years ago. Quote

Super User smalljaw67 Posted October 3, 2015 Super User Posted October 3, 2015 I know I'm in the minority but I don't care for JDM rods. I know they look cool and have great components but the actions are just not to my liking, even their fast action rods seem much slower than what we have here. From what I gather, that type of taper is used pretty much with their rods as it makes them more versatile but when you get use to rods having a distinct shut off point and a ridged backbone it makes the rod hard to use, at least for me it does, I always feel like I didn't get a good hook set or I'm not applying enough pressure. 1 Quote

Wayne, what model 844 did you buy? I have had the IMX and the GLX and they were excellent rods with many more uses than just jig n worm. Quote

It's the E6X, I'm going to use this one primarily for short casting Popper Frogs and Toads so sensitivity wasn't a concern. As long as it has some tip for casting accuracy and a big backbone I think it will work out well for me. Brian says this 844 has plenty of tip. Assuming the action is the same as the two you had what should I expect from this rod? Quote
bootytrain Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 What rod did you get? I'll post pics when I get it lol.. Its going to be a couple of weeks. 1 Quote

If the EX6 is like the Classic Mag Bass 844's that I have owned, it will have a really nice soft tip with plenty of backbone and nowhere close to being a broomstick. Quote

Thanks for that info.... The tip action is critical to me. The rod is due to arrive on Tuesday. If I like it I'm going to buy a 904 too. I'll post pics. You're playing in the big money league with a Megabass rod.... Quote
