shimmy Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Quick question for you guys, what finish do you put on your metal or lead lures? What preserves the paint the best and is abrasive resistant? I am currently using the multi-purpose heavy duty epoxy where you mix the resin and hardener on top of my paint. I am also just painting with acrylic paint for now, not a die hard, but doing it for fun. So, what would be best to coat this? I have had to coat it twice with the epoxy just to cover it all and i don't know how durable it will be once jolted Quote
bnwcrankin Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 I've used devcon 2ton for mine and seem's to work fine. I'm not a big jig user so they haven't been wet as much as some other's. Quote
BobP Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Fishermun's Lurecoat is a moisture cured polyurethane that Dick Nite sells to hobbyists and uses on his company's trolling spoons. Good stuff - very durable, high gloss, thin like a factory finish (hey, it IS a factory finish!) The problem with epoxy on metal baits is that it will draw away from sharp edges while it cures. The edge looks OK but the epoxy there is very very thin and will come off pretty quickly. If you're interested in DN, check out its application and storage requirements on tackleunderground.com (use the search feature in the Hardbaits Forum). Dick Nite advertises on TU and offers a good discount to TU members via his banner ad. Quote

X2.. He's was supposed to give me a called when he found another but haven't heard anything yet and it's still not available on his site... Quote
Fishwhittler Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 I was at Dick Nite's website earlier and yes the topcoat is available again. I thought about getting some but I'm a little leery about how it will react with the paint I use. Also I like the thickness of epoxy and I'm not sure I want to deal with the problems of storing DN. :-/ Quote
Steven Ladner Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Yes it's available again. Here's his post on TU, it includes an ADDITIONAL 10% discount : "Good News! Our new formulation has passed all the tests I could throw at it. While I am sure there are some combinations of materials, atmospheric conditions, and processes I missed, it passed all the tests I did with flying colors. Most people will find absolutely no difference between our new and old formulation. Chip/Scratch resistance, Worm resistance, Leveling qualities, viscosity, color, and everything else is THE SAME as before. So, I would like to take this time to thank you all, first for your business in the past, and secondly for your patience during this fiasco our vendor put us into. I have notified several folks by email, but if you have called and spoken with me in the past 2 months, you know the frame of mind I have been in (can you say, "Frazzled"?), so I may have missed some. For your patience, I will be giving an additional 10% discount on the top-coat to all you TU members on orders placed through the end of this year as a kind of "Thank You" for being such a great bunch of folks and supporting us through this trying time. As always, if you have questions, suggestions, or whatever, please feel free to email (Orders: TU_Order@dicknite.com or anything else: dicknite@dicknite.com) and I will be happy to talk to you! I am going to post this as a separate thread in case anyone has tired of this one, so forgive the duplication if you see it. Thanks again folks - you are appreciated! Dick Nite Dick Nite Spoons, Inc. PS - if you have posted here that you wanted to order, please do NOT assume that I have you on the list. Please order again and I will catch any duplication in my order system." Quote
bnwcrankin Posted December 23, 2009 Posted December 23, 2009 Excellent Dick!!! Thank's for the response....I'll get my order in shortly... Quote
