cole4hopson Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Hey guys I was cleaning out my Lews MCS Speed Spool SS1H and when I put the reel back together nothing really worked.. Once I click the button the spool is free but when I reel to start pulling in line nothing happens the line just stays where it is and the button wont "pop up" and activate so i can reel. And I cant activate it unless I undo everything again. If you have ANY advice please share and if worst comes to worst if you guys have a recommended place to send it to for repairs.. thanks Quote
Super User K_Mac Posted September 30, 2015 Super User Posted September 30, 2015 I would disassemble it and put it back together according to the schematic. If you don't have one you might be able to find one online. Without a drawing or a detailed video, box it up and send it to Mike at DVT. He is a site sponsor, skilled mechanic, and a trusted source of information. He will probably be along soon. Good luck. Quote
sprint61 Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Hard for me to explaon here because I don't know what all the parts are called on a reel but I've had this happen. The round brass part with teeth I guess the main gear? it has a silver piece with catches that sits under it, this is what closes the spool. When you crank the handle it should make contact to the little silver like bar inside the reel that goes to the button.(just look at its location you will know it's for the spool button). The silver piece under the main gear should be sitting in a rectangular notch under it(on bottom of stem that main gear, drag washers, and reel handle go on. I had this exact problem with a lfs I did what I tried my best to describe and it worked. Hope that helped like I said hard for me to explain. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted September 30, 2015 Super User Posted September 30, 2015 I have had this happen too, but with my Abu round reels. When I put the reel back together, the button that releases the spool was in the down position. Like I was getting ready to cast. I had to take the side back off and make sure the button was in the up position when I put the side back on. 2 Quote

I had to take the side back off and make sure the button was in the up position when I put the side back on. I had the same issue with a Shimano Cardiff. Once I disassembled it again and held the button up like the spool was engaged it worked like it was suppose to again. 1 Quote
Super User new2BC4bass Posted September 30, 2015 Super User Posted September 30, 2015 I'm no reel expert. That is why I send my reels to someone like DVT to take care of for me. Quote
Preytorien Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Yea, I reassembled a Curado with the assembly in the "pushed" state. Had to disassemble and click it back up. 1 Quote
Bruce424 Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Maybe you put that piece that looks like a saw on backwards... 1 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Sorry to state the obvious but something is misassembled or missing and the only way to know is to open it back up. If you want to send it in ill take note and let you know what you did wrong. It's only conjecture without seeing it. Fwiw never open a reel without a schematic handy and remember they are primarily a parts list and may not show order of assembly or part orientation. It's important to document during disassembly. Super User bigbill Posted September 30, 2015 Super User Posted September 30, 2015 I lay each part as they are removed on a white clean towel. Then I clean each part, then assemble. Quote
Super User Montanaro Posted September 30, 2015 Super User Posted September 30, 2015 Odds are the piece that looks like a buzz saw is on backwards. The way you have it the teeth slide off the catch that disengages thumb bar and engages gear. Flip the teeth around and it will catch and engage reel. 1 Quote

Could be that the part that saddles the pinion gear is upside down, too. Quote
Molay1292 Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 If you pull the handle side plate and take a picture then post it, it will make it easier to help. Quote
Lendiesel22 Posted October 4, 2015 Posted October 4, 2015 I agree with the few that said it sounds like the saw blade thing under the main gear is backwards. Quote
