Okay, I am closing in on a decision for my new reel. I have been pouring over reviews and specifications and now I would like to hear thoughts from firsthand users. I know a lot of people have said that the Tournament Pro is very good but I've also seen some reviews that say the BB1 Pro is a little easier to clean, adjust and cast plus they say it casts farther than a Tournament Pro. I'm a beginner and will be primarily a bank fisherman with the occasional outing in my rubber boat. My thinking was if I'm fishing from shore I might want the extra distance so I can get out where the really big fish are (of course there are plenty of big fish near shore in the lily pads too)...does anyone know exactly how much farther the BB1 Pro casts than the Tournament Pro? I am also still considering the Daiwa Tatula 100HSL but am leaning a little more towards the Lew's. All three reels I can get for about $100 so the money is just about equal and it all boils down to the reel.

I can vouch for the bb1 pro and say that it is an awesome reel. Super smooth and with 30lb braid I can cast any lure far.

I'm a Lews fan for sure sure. They're a great quality reel company with outstanding service.

As for which reel, I have two BB1Pros and Tourney Pro's.

The Tourney has dual braking system and is a smaller reel.

It's a much more comfortable reel to handle. I use mine for some serious junk fishing. Never had a failure.

I use the BB1 Pro for cranks. Both reels cast equal distance when pair with the same rod and line.

A great compromise would be the Super Duty. It's tough and it cast a mile. It is a bit heavier though.

If I had to recommend one reel for you it would be the Tournament Pro.. It's as close to perfect as you will find anywhere in its price range. American Legacy Fishing has a sale going on so take a look.

There are no sales for the new G2 model anywhere...

If you want a super lite that's tough and cast seriously far buy the new Magnesium frame Team reel. About $100.00 more. Mine is incredible in every way.

$100 is at my limit so it'll definitely be the BB1 Pro, Tournament Pro or Tatula.

Your going to have to spend at least 140 for either of the Lews reels.

I have both the Tournament Pro and the BB-1 Pro. I like them both, but I prefer the Tournament Pro. It casts about as far, is lighter, smaller, and adjusts in very small increments. It is my FAVORITE reel to use. I don't have any reels in a higher price range, but I have many reels in the 200 MSRP range to compare. I am a big fan of Lew's products.

How are you getting them for $100? The site won't let me stack the coupon on the sale price of $129.

Nope, I just found that out yesterday :(. Looks like I'll be turning my attention to the Daiwa Tatula 100HSL for $94 (from the same place, he's matching an Amazon.com listing for the RH version).

I'm new to the forum, but while looking for the best deals on these two reels I stumbled across jet.com where they have the tatula 100HS for 85 bucks with free shippinig. I never used that site before so take it for what it's worth.

Thanks for the tip Sneed...I checked it out and it's not there anymore plus I need the HSL which is the left-hand version.

You're welcome, I know you need the lefty, but for anyone else that might be looking for the tatula just type "tatula" in the search bar and it will pull up several models.

I have two TP's and one BB1 Pro.   After a year of using the BB1 Pro, I would probably not have bought it.   I have plenty of experience with baitcasters, but I found the BB1 Pro to be prone to backlashing more often, and not casting as far as the TP.   This is with lighter lures.  It's fine with heavier stuff, pitching, flipping, jigs, etc.  The TP really handles light stuff well, senkos, small cranks, topwater, and other light plastics.  So, my solution was to put the BB1 Pro on a heavy action rat rod/umbrella rig rod.  And it works great for that.  Even handles the retrieve better.

For the best all around reel, I think the TP takes the cake between the two options.

But, I would also add the Tournament MB (new model), is just as good as the TP.  I can't tell a difference in feel or castability side by side.  I own two Tournament MB's also.
