Super User Senko lover Posted September 29, 2015 Super User Posted September 29, 2015 I use Zoom Super Flukes and Super Flukes Jr., and they are killer baits. My favorite color is Arkansas Shiner, which really imitates a bluegill. I use a 3/0 or 4/0 EWG hook, and have a pretty good hookup ratio. My favorite uses for a fluke: -Vegetation: 100% weedless if rigged right -Laydowns/Logs: It's great for keeping in the strike zone -Open water: When bass are keyed in on baitfish, I try to match the size It's a very versatile bait. Super User buzzed bait Posted September 29, 2015 Super User Posted September 29, 2015 i would suggest looking at another hook , those skip gap hooks are garbage , they will flex so bad your fish will slide off the hook !! in my opinion , worst hook ever made ... sorry want a killer hook , take a gander at Owner's Rig - n Hook in 3/0 , super sharp and perfect gap for Zoom 4'' flukes .... they've never given me any issues, yet.... Super User scaleface Posted September 29, 2015 Super User Posted September 29, 2015 I cant tell you the size but I use big Eagle Claw Flipping hook's that I picked up several years ago . The only time I use them is when I am fishing on top of slimy , slop and need to throw a weightless worm , fluke... .It adds enough weight that I can easily cast it with baitcasting gear . One of the best big fish tactics I found . Quote
illinifan4152 Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 I use 4/0 offset round bends with great success, with zoom super flukes or caffeine shads Quote
CrazyFluker Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 I pretty much try all the colors but think Watermelon has been best for my lake and funny the water is normally a greenish or brownish. Arkansas has a great flash in my lake. I've done a dip in chartreuse, then with spike it markers, paint the top blue which makes it green and Orange up the belly. I haven't caught a lot with the painted up color scheme but it looks cool like a bluegill, which I thought would've done better. I like them with the Gomakatsu 4/0 weighted hook (1/16) and my all time favorite is on a 1/4oz scrounger. I just hooked at huge bass on one but lost it at the boat, which I whined about in another post lol. Quote
MrBigFishSC Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 they've never given me any issues, yet.... Same for me. Skip gap books are quite easy to use and rig a variety of baits well. Never had any problems Quote
jitterbug127 Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 White is only color I use. 3/0 ewg gama in red Quote
PourMyOwn Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 I've also found that heavier line makes a difference. If you must use mono, 17 is the best I've found. You don't want a ton of stretch, you'll have issues driving the hook in with lighter lines. I use braid during the summer, then go back to fluorocarbon or Silver Thread once the grass starts to die, usually this time of year. I superglue my knots to the hook, just to keep it at the right angle, too. Quote
