Went 3 for 3 on frog hook-ups yesterday. I'm perfecting the hookset technique and it got me a few three-pounders on the SPRO Glide 65 in pumpkinseed color. And for those that might poo-poo a three pound largemouth, a fish that size in Northern Michigan is, basically, the equivalent of a 5-6# fish in southern states.

3lb-ers make my day.

I've never been consistent with frog hook-ups.

I'm sure I haven't found the actual can't-miss way. However, I have figured out that when people say, "wait to feel the fish" it is completely misleading. It makes novice anglers just completely stop what they're doing when they see a strike and that's just as bad as ripping the frog away from the fish. What I do, and it might just be a byproduct of my terrible walking technique, is reel the slack really fast, then a little more, and if the fish is one sweep it back. The last three times I have fished with frogs I think I have missed two, maybe three out of ten or so. So it's working for me, which is really all that matters.

When you reel in fast what are you doing? Getting all the slack in to feel for the fish! Nice job though! This year I really got into frog fishing too and I can relate to you living in MN. I caught a 21" 6lb bass this spring on a frog and nearly had a heart attack. There's no better way of fishin.

Awesome job man! I gotta say i disagree on that 3 pounder statement. Im also from michigan, and although 3 pounds is a nice fish i don't believe its equivalent. There are quite a few 6-7lbers up here

7 lb'ers come pretty rare here in MN.  a 3lb bass is a 3lb bass anywhere in the country, we just don't grow them quite as big as they do down south.
