Has anyone on here tried the Slim4Life program? My wife and I just started it last night. (actually starting this morning). They have you do 3 days of "prep" before putting you on the actual plan. I have to say after seeing, and now doing the prep for a day, I'm a little nervous here....

Prep? Like for a colonoscopy?

I think I will pass. I will stick with Grapefruit or tapeworm diet. Much more "natural" if you will.

The prep consists of this daily for 3 days: (you can't eat or drink anything other than this)

80 ounces of water (easy, I drink twice that)

2 hard boiled eggs in the morning

Multivitamins

2 oranges

2-3 lbs of hamburger or chicken breast (no seasoning or condiments)

All the raw celery, broccoli, cucumbers you want

1/2 tsp of Morton lite salt

All of this is simple except the 2-3lbs of meat. Literally makes me sick thinking about it. After the 3 days, you go on a more "normal" diet. I guess the protein is to get you metabolism fired up?

I'm gonna stick with it because I had a buddy lose 97lbs in 9 months. I want to drop 50.

Here goes nothing.

Will do. Once the normal diet starts, I'll have weekly weigh ins. I'll post updates on a weekly basis on results.

Cool, I'm interested to see how it goes.  Sounds similar to the "Whole 30".   Good luck. :)

Look up Wheat Belly...or the Wheat Belly cookbook.  You drop the pounds and are mentally clearer.  Have been doing it for almost three months now and have tons of energy and have lost the pounds.  I don't go completely with the books but have eliminated wheat and oats and most processed sugar.  It's a challenge to cut wheat out of your diet but like the book says ....gluten which is from wheat acts like a glue and is soooo genetically modified it just isn't good for you or anyone.

I had to do something as I just found out I'm a type 2 diabetic.  Doc said she would give me three months to get the numbers down.  Actually looking forward to going to doc and showing her I don't want any needles or pills.  Wife is also eliminating wheat and has found the arthritis in her hands is much less painful and getting even better....it' worth it.

Good Luck with what you choose and just my two cents.

That's awesome man!

This prep is honestly pretty tough. The amount of meat we are having to eat is sickening. Then add in the fact that it's just bland/dry... it really sucks. Let me tell you the looks I got walking into a meeting at work yesterday with my water bottle and a bag of sliced cucumber was priceless.... lol

I bet.....give the Wheat thing a try....it's painless and it does have its challenges....but it works.  The big thing for me was the dementia and altimers thing.  Supposed to help this from happening....so that was a seller for me.......good luck

I have tried many diet plans over the years, losing and regaining hundreds of pounds. In February of 2012 my cardiologist told me that I needed to lose some weight or not to make any long term plans. I weighed 338 pounds at the time. Today I weigh 190. I am convinced after much work and research that diets do not work. Diets are a short term solution to a life-long problem. A clear understanding of nutrition and exercise, and an ongoing commitment to living a healthy lifestyle is the only answer in my opinion. Anything else is a temporary fix.

That is not to say that the latest diet plan will not allow you to lose weight, just that weight loss is only one part of the solution. Good luck!

I'm going to stick with this one for a while, 1: because of the money we have invested in it, and, 2: because of the results of my friend. I'm definitely going to look in to the wheat thing as well.

I completely agree with you. This plan is based around teaching you healthy eating habits, such as appropriate portions, what to eat with what, and when to eat what. My wife's and my target weight is expected to be hit at 30 weeks. We then have a "maintenance" plan that will last for 24 months to make sure we maintain that weight and stay on track.  So... my thoughts on this is 30 weeks of losing weight plus 24 months of maintaining that should easily make for long term healthy eating habits. Once the weight starts coming off, my wife and I plan on working out more often. I probably work out 2 times a week (just strength cause lets be honest... Cardio when you are a fatty mcfatty sucks...). My wife works out 2-3 times a week (mostly cardio with some light strength training.) I would assume that as we continue to lose weight, working out will become easier thus making it more enjoyable. Going off of this reasoning, I would think that we could make this a long term life change.

That's how my brain is working on this, right now anyways. That could be the water, meat and cucumber overload though! I will say, I have had a headache since yesterday evening, and my wife's joints are bothering her. Our nutritionist said these are common symptoms of Carbs and Sugar withdrawals.... Yippy!! Only 1.5 days left on prep, then back to normal.

Well... Back to the hamburger patties.  :cry4:

This is The Only Way To Live.

I bought into this as a young man and made it my life style.   I've never had to endure wild fluctuations in my weight.  I can say from first hand experience the concept in the highlighted text above is the main reason why.

Additionally, I do not believe that the human body needs to prepare to eat & live healthy.  (doing a Prep ?)

That would be like leaving a room full of smoke and then going to another room with slightly less smoke before getting out into fresh air.  Just get on with it man.  You'll be fine.  Just remember moderation in all things including moderation.

It always makes me smile when people mention that a certain food is either good or bad for you.  In my experience we all start out perfect.  So what you eat & do determines how you are.  The wrong choices change you.  The right ones do not.

I'd wish you good luck but hope is not a strategy.  You have all the tools you need - it's called choice.

I remember 50 plus years ago when "wheat" was referred to amber waves of grain.  The wind and rain would knock it down and the farmers in the valley were bummed to say the least.  Not to mention disease.  Now it's 18 inches high and nothing will kill it.....Genetically modified isn't good.

A_Jay many people are convinced that many foods are evil. Bacon is not evil. Cheeseburgers are not evil. Ice cream is not evil. All of these foods, in moderation, can be incorporated into a healthy lifestyle. It takes discipline to do the work necessary to allow for the occasional the "bad" choice though. I have come to the point that I understand that as soon as I swear off ice cream, I will probably stop at the first Dairy Queen I see. I can't avoid these foods entirely, so I have to figure out how to live healthily in a world where being fat is the status quo.

I have been successful in doing this for the last couple of years because I've learned that being fit makes every aspect of living better: From carrying the groceries in, to standing all day on the deck of a boat, to that "special" time with my wife.

Hey, where's Richard Simmons when you need him?  For the longest time, he was coming out with some form of move, groove and lose weight reduction every other year.  Remember the license plate he used to have on his car, YRU FAT?

Actually, if you recall, most of his programs were crying fests and since most of the body is water, they lost weight in the form of tears.

The thing with a diet is that you have to commit to it..for life, or its merely a temporary weight loss. Bettering your lifestyle is the longterm solution, one you can live with. A very important thing to keep in mind is weight loss and health are often not paralells..they can and should be but the way many people go about it, they are opposites.

Rhino the thing about Simmons is in spite of the little shorts, tank top, and oil he never really ever was fit in my opinion. He was as soft as an over-ripe tomato. About as smart too, although he managed to make a lot of money with his snake oil.

I've started a plan that seems to be producing results. I started 2 weeks ago and have lost 10 pounds so far. It consists of intermittent fasting, along with trying to control the amount of calories I take in.

Right now, i'm trying to see how much I can lose without changing what I eat, compared to what I ate before the plan started.

I fast for 20 hours a day and eat during a 4 hour window. During that 4 hour window, I enjoy the same foods I did before I started, I just don't eat more meals after that, if it's high in calories.

EX. yesterday I had a pizza buffet. The day before, I had a 1 meat combo from the local BBQ joint, and topped it off with an ice cream cone. Some days I will eat other things that give me the ability to eat a few meals during the 4 hour period.

I could eat cleaner, go more towards a ketogenic diet, exercise more, etc, and probably boost the amount I lose right now, and I may do that in the future, but I want to see if I can do it without any real lifestyle change first.
